I use NAPA 15W40 oil and NAPA filters. The oil is made by Ashland, same company that makes Valvoline. NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix. Don't use the Silver line, they are terrible, we don't even carry them. I work at a local NAPA store. I have a question though. Since I do all my own oil and filter changes does the computer keep track of oil change intervals? Or do I need to document elsewhere to maintain my warranty? I figured the computer would as it keeps track of everything else. If this has been answered elsewhere I apologize.

I am curious what you are paying for the NAPA oil filter? This is a much better quality filter OIL FILTER - FLEETGUARD - STRATAPORE ('89-'15, 6.7L & 5.9L) - LF16035 for $13.95 at Genos garage.

Delo 5-40 LF9028

Yo....

My dipstick looked like that too until I returned my truck to stock yesterday.... Lets see how long it will take to turn black... I have about 6 weeks before the next truck comes in..

I pay just under $12 for a NAPA Gold filter, actually this is the walk in price. I pay less as I work for a NAPA store and I get employee pricing. Here is some interesting information on filters and their quality. This is from the XL Form which is a forum for Harley Sportster owners. http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=1922488

HI, I just called Cummins support today and currently it is Dino 15W40, didn't give brand. I asked why since I thought it was synthetic 5W40 as you replied. they changed it in the last year to save money. It is now up to your dealer to switch to synthetic 5W40 if the temp merits into the time of delivery.

A year ago on this same thread, I weighed in with Amsoil 15w-40, Fleetguard full flow filter and Amsoil BP100 bypass filter. Been using amsoil almost exclusively for nearly 20 years. But right now for winter, I decided to try some Rotella 5w-40.

I have some full syn lucas red line 15w 40 in the shed for the spring. I decided to try some that have been mentioned on this forum and in other research I've done,

I use Valvoline Premium Blue 15/40 and Fleetguard LF16035 filters , I change everyone 100 hours or 5000 miles whatever comes first. I change the fuel filter every other oil change

it's interesting to see how often the oil drained. i know the owners manual says xxxx miles, months, yada yada. but the oil companies are designed to run on hours... most modern oils are meant for 500 hours.
me, i use what's on sale. right now it's VPB 5/40 and DBL 7349 filters. next change will be travellers 15/40. same filters.
after trying the Lf9028 and several different oils, i saw no reason to keep spending the money on the filter. the UOA i got made no difference in filters. now i'm doing a similar test with oils. the last two being VPB 5/40 and T6, no quantifiable change in ware metals between the two.
my hypotheses is that as long as it's clean oil, of sufficient rating, it'll be just fine for the engine at the 7-8K mile drain intervals i do.

Supertech HD 15W-40 for 7 bucks a gallon at Walmart. UOA comes back the same as Rotella T6 on the roughly 3K-5K miles interval my 2012 asks for; can't go longer anyway as at that point I get at about 3%-4% fuel dilution

What increase do you see on the dipstick with 3-4% fuel dilution?

I normally try to fill up at the half way mark of the "SAFE" and by the time I change the oil is usually up right around the top of the "SAFE". If I put in 12 quarts I'm above full (other seems to observe the same) so I add 11 quarts that sets me half ways. From half SAFE to top seems to be half a quart which is in line with 3% to 4% from the UOA

I add 11 quarts plus 24 oz. I let mine drain overnight.

I've heard this before, its a 12 quart system, Drained properly , and add 12 quarts with the filter. I don't get this 11.5 or 11 plus 24oz. . Its a 12 QUART system dump it in establish on the dipstick ,and maintain accordingly.

3 gallons ,and be done

Whenever I've added 12 qts, it's slightly overfull. Enough to matter? Maybe not. But I put just shy of 12 in now regardless.
