Rotten Ron, what kind of rpm do you get before defueling? I have a #6 in both my 95 & 98. The 95 defuels at about 2100 & 98 at 2500. I like the #6, but more rpm would help my trannies I think. Also my stock 95 auto can hold the #6 towing 9k no problem, but the 98 will slip at 26# boost towing 13K. I think I might be better off with a #10 and GSK and downshift sooner. Basically I can pull from Columbia, SC to the foothills of the Smokies without downshifting at 65-75, but if traffic slows me down I would like to be able to run 70 in drive. I think I would need about 2800rpm to do that.

tgrfan2,

Before I put in the 3k GSK the pump started defuelling at 2100 rpm or so. You could really feel it. I highly, highly recommend the 3K GSK. I'm not sure when I defuel now but I suspect it is somewhere at/beyond 3000 rpm. It pulls hard to 3000 rpm (but shifts up at 2700 rpm or so even with my foot in it). The only time I actually see 3000 rpm is towing up a hill in third with OD locked out. I found that if the hill is too steep to hold 1700+ rpm in OD, I can just hear the lockup clutch on the torque converter start to slip if I give it too much fuel. If I lockout OD, I can put the foot down, drive the boost to 32 psi and the TC holds fine. I figure the higher rpm allows more apply pressure in the transmission. I'm towing about 10K. I regularly tow in OD, but will go into third to climb steep hills. I've found that locking out OD during a big climb also knocks down EGT from 1250 ish to 1000 or so. Hope this helps you decide, again I very highly recommend the 3K GSK. It's an absolute travesty to be driving one of these trucks without it! ;)

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all your posts. I have a Bank's Ottomind and plan to replace it with a #10 plate. Is there and difference in the plates from TST vs Piers vs whomever?
