First off, I am fairly new to TDR, but really appreciate the vast amount of knowledge and help you all provide.

I have a '95 2500 4x4 5spd conversion, with a #6 plate full forward, k&n, and 4-inch exhaust minus down pipe. I would like to try to set my own timing and am wondering what I should set it at. My goal for now is 500hp. I would really appreciate any recommendations and advice. Also I have heard about the "seat of the pants" method to setting timing. How is it set with this method? I prefer to do the best method and am pricing timing sets, while getting my courage out of the attic and dusting it off. I have been through 1 year of diesel mechanics, mostly basics, hard to learn it all in a short time. I did put the plate in and adjust the governor lever to keep it from hanging up under the profile. Thanks for the help, Jordan

It kinda depends on what you use your truck for. If you tow much then stay around 15. 5 or 16 deg as you give up low end torque as the timing advances.
