Howdy all,

I am going to pick up a plain steel wheel from a wrecking yard tomorrow for use as a second spare tire before I go hunting next week. I want to get an identical Michelin tire for it as the stock ones on my truck. I know it's 16", but what is the width? I tried to measure the ones on the truck, but it isn't precise. It looks like either 8 1/2" or maybe 8 3/4"... ... ... ...

The stock tires I have are 265/75/R16 Michelin LTX M/S's

Thanks all,

Tom

My door post says 16 by 7. 5, with 245/75/R16.

I think that's what you get standard, and the SLT package upgrades to the forged aluminum wheels.

My window sticker (I have the SLT package and had Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/16 OWL tires from factory, option at $275 extra) says Wheels- 16 x 8. 0 Forged Aluminum.

I got new tires put on yesterday, and had them measure my rims. The guy used a tool made for checking wheel width with the tire on, and told me I have 16 x 8. 5

I don't know about my spare, but since it's a steel rim, I'd GUESS the door post applies, and it's 16 x 7. 5

Clear as mud.

For years, the wheel width measurement has been *inside-to-inside*, where the tire beads sit. I watched a tireshop guy who should know better, get out his big outside calipers and call a 7 X 15" Dodge Copcar rim a 7 1/2". Jeez!

Just went through this at the dealership yesterday, trying to come up with a factory 8" styled steel wheel. According to the parts guy, it don't exist, and the widest steel wheel is 7 1/2" (inside-to-inside). I'm hoping he's incorrect.

Just wanted to clarify this to eliminate confusion. I'll calm down now.
