I know several people with 05 chevy half tons with 5. 3 liter gassers. They talk about how powerful they are. I have not said a word, just agree. I know with my OEM torque converter I wouldn't have a chance. I plan on a goerend TC real soon, then probably a TST power kit(230hp 605 torque) Would that do it? How about the father-inlaws 97 3500 chevy 454 crew cab. I would love to smoke that. I think it would be fun to say gee, with 94 more cubic inches and twice as much fuel I thought you would beat me. One thing about it what ever I do will be kept seceret(as far as gas owners are concerned)concerning power enhancements. I will just say nope she's bone stock. I love my cummins!

OK... I'll jump in.

Start with the transmission - TC & VB a must. Next for power enhacements:

1) Gauges EGT & Boost as a minimum. Go with a 60 psi boost - might as well only do that job once.

2) Fuel plate. TST #10 is very popular and adjustable by sliding it forward/backwards. It's listed for a standard transmission but will work for you too. I'm running a #4 - a bit more low end fueling than a #10 = more low end smoke and can be hard on the transmission.

3) Air enhancements. Get rid of the stock air box. BHAF or any of the other air filters other than K&N. With just the fuel plate adjust the boost to 35psi and EGTs should be in check (empty only, towing??)

4) GSK. I went with a 4k GSK. If you get the 3k kit from Rip, it'll actually be a 4k kit minus the valve springs. Being you have an auto, it'll stay below the 3500 rpm range unless you purposely push it above that. Much higher and the valves will hit the pistons - that's why valve springs come in the 4gsk kit.

5) Now that you got the bug, go for injectors. Might as well go with 370s. Yeah they smoke a bit but the power to cost is worth it.

6) You'll need a turbo upgrade with the injectors. I can get by with a HTT stage 3 hybrid. It gets warm but it can be controlled. Plenty of turbo options = your pick depending on how deep your pockets are.

So now your probably over 400 HP. Only choice left is to decide on what tires you'll be buying for the rear... :-laf

How fast are the gassers in the 1/4? I haven't has the chance to see one run at a track. My buddy has a 03 Chevy 5. 3. I have ridden in it and it feels pretty peppy empty. Put a trailer behind it and it becomes a dog. I had 100 less Hp at the time and I could leave him on a uphill grade even with a bigger trailer and more weight.
