Just tow the thing down and back and don't worry about it. in all the times i;ve gone to Vegas i have seen the checkpoint open once, that would be about 40 or 50 times. Stormy

I agree, I've been through Vegas many times.

Yeah I figured I won't be in the state for that long and if I'm not coming through when the cops are bored I should be alright. Its primarily the insurance thing I'm worried about now, cause that could suck if something happened. But I'll try and get that all figured out.

Yes it is, and covers medical (or veterinary) only on horses. I saved a bunch by having customers who are really concerned or who have high dollar horses sign a death waiver and buying their own "one time shipment" policy. It costs them $50 and saves me 10 times that. One of the biggest problems is in a death situation, when a $10,000. 00 horse becomes a $100,000. 00 horse if you know what I mean.

So where is your $1,000,000

commercial liability and your $100,000 cargo insurance? You know , the ones required by law in order to be a "commercial" carrier. Whats your DOT & MC numbers, can't seem to locate you in the FMCSA site? :(

You don't read very well do you? Has that been a problem since childhood? Or has it just developed over the years?

I was talking to Sean (the feller that started the thread), forgot to add that about the ins. I knew you had all of your ducks in a row JH. :)

I pull a bullrack (99. 9% cattle, and an occasional hog load) for a living, so I know about the livestock hauling. Never lost an animal in the 7 yrs. I've been doing this. :D One exception would be when I had to pick up some hogs that were on a rig that laid over in a drainage ditch, kind of upside down. What a freaking mess. They loaded 190 head on their truck, and only 104 made it to the plant alive. Had a few dead ones, and they shot a few in the head at the plant because they couldn't walk off. The rest were in the other trailer, dead. Either from the heat or suffocation with the other hogs being forced on top of them.

I wasn't talking to you. MM was making a stab a Karl. ;)

FYI, he can laugh all he wants. He is also a commercial hauler, with his pickup truck. So he knows all about that crap.

To add to my earlier post, is the ins. on the truck itself, set up for you to haul for hire? If it is personal use type of ins. , and you got in a wreck, they could tell you to take a hike.

My bad!! Getting all caught up with Jeffy poo here, forgot who is who, sorry KB!! Damn Jeff searched all over safersys and all, but still can't find you, wonder why? How much is your "insurance " payment? I pay damn near $600 a month on mine!

Well that settles that, I was talking to the guy who owns the car and he pretty much wants to pay fuel and thats eat. So unless he changes his mind, I'm not putting 1300 loaded miles on my truck and trailer, as well as almost 24hours time, and an extra night hotel and food as well as eating a plane ticket that is already purchased so that some yahoo can have his car in Las Vegas. He offered me $200 on top of fuel, so unless I can convince him that fuel will run me $1,000 I don't think I will be making this run.

Thank you for all of the valuable information on insurance and hauling regulations though. It will definitely make me think really hard if someone asks me to haul something for them.

Thanks again.

Thats a long time, I gotta offer kudos on that one, some around here expect at least 1 per cattle load. The problem with the horses is people think of 'em more as pets than livestock. I own, love and ride horses, but the treats, blankets and shipping boots makes a circus out of shipping them. These people expect the horse to come 2,000 miles looking fresh, but want it in less than 2 days.

The death rate is usually higher on hogs, a boot in the head or a hot stick 'll usually get 'em up and off the trailer

Sorry about your luck, but please quit talking to me like a little faggot, your starting to scare me ... ... . you don't get all obsessed and **** do you? I had a woman like that once.

I ain't done **** or said **** to you, take your obsession elswhere freak.

I recently towed a 28' Airstream, new, travel trailer from Fife, Wash. to Anchorage, Alaska for a friend of my son.

I had a permission letter from the owner as well as a copy of his insurance covering the trailer. He gave me $1800 for doing it. He also provided a temp. lic. tag. I had to make a trip to Seattle anyway so it paid for my fuel. No problems crossing the us/Canada borders.

One way is 2490 miles. Info to consider... .....

May have worked, but it was NOT legal (as per DOT laws). The canadian border police are not the same as our DOT.

Jeff,

Even though I do not agree with the personel comments, I can understand why you are getting bi*ched at. There are many of us out here busting our butts to make a living and doing all legal like the DOT laws say. You coming on here and talking about all the money you make and how you are skirting the laws and costs that the we pay to be legal is like you are spitting in our face.

I know that you should have all the correct licenses and insurance, but what is the big deal with a little guy making a few bucks here and there with trucks that they own and make payments on. I haul here and there for a little extra cash, cattle, pipe, hay, and etc. I guess since I am not commercial I better quit hauling and making a little extra on the side.

Nothng wrong with making money. The point is do it LEGAL. Not if, but when you get caught or an accident happens you will look back and wish you did do it right.

The bootleggers ruin it for us who are trying to make it by the book. I cannot stand when I bid a run and the dumb jerk says that so and so will do it for like 50% less or so. It takes work away from the legit people out there.

Also, I feel that the insurance is a critical thing. I had a bad wreck a few years ago (pics in my readers rides) that nearly cost me everything. If I was bootleggin, 2 truckers would not have replacement rigs, ect. .

Just saying "If you're gonna do it, do it right"

I can assure you I was NOT trying to belittle anybody here. I doubt anyone here hauls horses, so there is no comparison on this board. What I do is WAY different than flatbed or wedge hauling. I've asked the guys with badges and here is where I am, believe it or not, I am as legal as I think I need to be.

Call me all the names you want, it won't change your situation, and it won't effect mine
