Hi All, I'm thinking of selling my 96' regular cab to buy a used quadcab. Can anybody tell me if there's years/problems to avoid from 98-up. I've read some things about brakes and lift pumps? Thanks for the info.

It seems that the one's to avoid are all the overvalved units. But If I had to, I would look at 2000 and newer as they seem to have the least issues with the VP44, from my looking at the the forms. I would check out the 24valve forum and look at failures.

Brian, I have a '98 24V but I think I got a good one. I havn't had any problems other than a bad transmission when new but DC got me a new one. If money isn't a problem get as new as you can. Do you tow? Do you expect to bomb? answering these questions can narrow down the field.

I have a '99 24V 4x4 HD , 5 Spd, Quad Cab, Short Box. I've put all 30K plus miles on it and have had absolutely no problems. Tow a 7K TT for vacations. I think I got a good one too.

Definetely a 2000,if you want an auto,and a 4x4,since the stronger front axle,separate rotors,and beefed up auto/,and higherHp were in 2000. if you want a std 2wd,id go with 98 4x4 and newer. I too am looking fo a used quad cab 1999 or newer in the 25K range-it seem most are worn out now or they want 30K for them,before I spent 30,I d buy a new one for 33k at 300 over invoice.
 
I have a 99... only problem in over 30K is a replaced oil pressure sending unit. I have a Blue Box, and not one bit of trouble with the VP44, even using those "pesky" scotchlocks.

I have towed and hauled a lot. No problems.

I don't pay much attention to automatics, but I thought the increased power didn't come til 2001, along with the ETH. Someone with a 2000 auto want to chime in?

Thanks for the info. I do some towing of a 16'car trailer (about 5000lbs total)... but nothing serious. Mostly pleasure driving. I'd like to stick with the manual transmission if possible.

There all good. I had my 95 for six years. Just bought my 2001. 5 in Jan. If you run into any of the problems, e-mail me. There is a way to fix most things. I would not know about autos.
