Systems (Software) Engineer (when I have a job). Currently unemployed. Like the work, just unstable employment. Longest I've worked in one place is 2. 5 years; out of 19 years total! IT industry is geared towards "short timers. "

I know a responed to this thread like a year ago, but my occupations have changed, so to update, STILL a Locomotive engineer, US Navy SEABEE, Firearms Instructor/armorer and now doing freight Logistics for the music industry. 8 months with Slipknot and the past 3 with Rob Zombie and Korn. That helps to explain my long absence on the boards. Still dont have the time i wish i had to spend here.

EMD obviously nobody ever told you there are only 24 hours in a day.

How do you do all of that? You get a leave of absence from work or something?

I responded to this last year too, but I'm presently on temporary disability, since 5/11.

I'll probibally be going back some time next month.

I do electrical control design (PLC programming, etc. ) and manage projects. The equipment we build feeds chemicals for water and wastewater treatment. Chance are, your city poop plant has our equipment in it.



Off time is spent de-stressing off road with my Jeep & dirt bike, and with the family, and camping, and fixing the Jeep when I break it, and bombing the Ram that tows the toys...

I have my own business which is home repair specializing in small jobs. I keep as busy as I want and dont have to ask for time off to go to May Madness. I get to meet a lot of really nice people and get paid several times a day. I love my work and probably will never quit completly till health forces me to.

Its great to see all the folks listed here that we never get to hear from. What an interesting variety of jobs.

I manage a college computer lab that specialized is spatial technologies. That is, analysis of satellite imagery, aerial photography, Gegraphic Information Systems, land surveying... .



Generally speaking, I'm a computer jock that likes maps.

Overnight maintenance checks on B-777, B-767, B-757 aircraft.

I have my own home business drafting custom home plans using AutoCAD Architectural Desktop. I draw architectural and structural 3D and 2D.

We have an excavating company and mostly work for the oil and gas companies around here. We build roads and well sites, put in pipelines, build tank farms, hook up large compressors, etc. .



I love my job. I get to sit in an air conditioned/heated cab way out in the middle of the National Forest for 10-15 hours a day and listen to the radio, herd the employees, and move dirt. Dealing with employees who don't want to work and feel they are worth mega$$$$$$ is the worst part of it all. The Department of Enviromental Protection can be a pain in the ars once in a while too, but no big deal.



I'm also very suprised what a diverse group there is here. I was complete astounded that there weren't any other folks who operated equipment full time. Interesting.

Some Operators have told me,"We listen to a Diesel all day long, I want QUIET on the ride home. "

Have worked in the marine, HVAC, machine, and manufacturing industries, many years in school some full time some part time,



Ended up as a hazardous materials / hazardous waste spill technition Now work for Occupational Safety Specialists Inc. Got out of the moon suit and into the classroom. Teach Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, Confined space entry, fall protection, Hazard Communication, First Aid and CPR, industrial fire safety, etc... as well as consulting in industrial health and safety helping companies stay out of hot water with OSHA by assisting with compliance issues.



Spare time: Trail riding in my well modified Jeep CJ, Fishing, Running my Liberator all around Buzzards Bay, and Vinyard Sound at high speeds, Drinking Beer, wrenching on Jeeps, the Dodge, the boat, and Enjoying Life for the short time we are here.

Thanks to my wonderfull wife for her support in all of the above.

Ro-ro means Roll on Roll off.

Any kind of a ship wherein cargo is wheeled and drives on and off.

Passenger ferries, car carriers; some carry exclusively tractor trailers or even railroad stock. But all rolling. Lots of the ocean going stuff have their own ramps four or five lanes wide extending from the stern.
