Assuming it's clean and rust-free, with a "regular" title I'd say around $7k. The salvage title value will vary from state to state, but I'd venture a guess of 50-75% of the non-salvage price.

Of course, a salvage-title doesnt mean it's a bad truck; it just hurts the value on paper. Any truck is actually worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I went and looked at it and it is clean. Buckets, cruise, pw, pl. He just had the head looked over, put new injectors in it and the pump turned up a little. (the guy hates that it smokes now, I loved it)

But on the other hand the hood does not match up very good and the bumper gap varies by about 1/2 inch from side to side. Needs new tires on the back. It never had rock guards on it so the rockers are chipped. Other wise it is nice

Ran good but needs a new battery or the connections need cleaned because we had to charge it to get it to run. He said it had not run in a couple weeks.

He said $7100 I was thinking more like $6000 or less.

With a salvage title I wouldn't go very high at all. In my area that truck with a salvage title would be around 3k at the most. Running or not.

If you are thinking about getting it. Have it put on a frame rack and checked. Before you buy it. Most larger pickups are not totaled for sheet metal damage. Unless it is a older model or it has frame damage. The bumper gap you mentioned could be a damaged frame.

The guy said it was put on a frame rack and checked out fine.

I am considering it but not for what he is offering. He doesn't really sound like he really needs to sell it and but his wife made him get an 01 for the extended cab room. (full back seat room for 2 kids) I am going to wait it out a little bit and maybe he will get frustrated if no one gives him an offer. I also need to get rid of my car.

Sounds a little high, 7100 is in the park for a regular title with no damage, 5000-5500 I think would be reasonable for a salvage title.

7100 thats crazy for a wrecked, bent frame, gonna eat up tires, dog legging. Save your 6K for a non-wrecked truck. Check TDR classifieds, plenty for sale there.

Just throwing in my . 02 worth. The first thing that I would do in your shoes is see what Nebraska's take is on the salvage title. They may open up an entirely new can of worms. In addition I would talk to your insurance agency and see what there thought is on insuring the vehicle. They may also be able to run a data based search to find out why it was totaled, i. e. bent frame, flood etc...

When doing panel replacement, there is inherent adjustment potential in lining the panel up correctly. Whomever did the job, either; one, did not take pride in what they were doing (bad and raises other questions as to the general quality of repair) or two, were working with a bent frame and could not line it up correctly.

So... When I purchase a vehicle (over 30 and counting) I have developed a mental balance that I cannot cummarize in a short paragraph. In it I take the totality of the vehicle (condition), the apparent maintenance (not what I am told was maintained) and the owners presentaion of himself. And believe it or not I put most of the weight on the owners presentation of himself when dealing with a vehicle that yields little information. If the owner is a slob and presents himself badly... . Well enough said.

Based upon what you have written, I would pass it up. To me it sounds like it would be a bad experience for you. Now if he is willing to part with it for around $4,000 dollars, then I would get interested.

Thanks for the info from everyone. I think I am going to pass here. I want a CTD but don't want or can't afford to fix things on a pickup that has problems from the beginning. Plus I don't think this guy will go near low enough for me.

I will keep searching.

My truck is a salvage title. Almost walked away due to that alone. But... I did my homework and scored a great deal.

Info: Up here, my insurance would reduce payoff value by 20% for the rebuild title. No dealers will take it on trade.

Insurance decides if a vehicle is "totaled" or not. Almost always comes down to cost to repair vs cost to replace. My co workers Honda was stolen and stripped of body parts. Car was fine otherwise, but "totaled" by the insurance company because in their books, it would cost more to fix than payoff. So he bought it back from them, bought secondhand fenders, etc, had it painted, and got a great car for hardly any dough.

My truck was rolled, and I used the seller (very open with me; gave me pictures - showed me before, during and after photos of the work) and a buyers inspection to make my decision. Supply and Demand will typically drive prices in a given region. I was unwilling to buy an out of state truck, so I paid more for mine than I would have if I had bought it in some other state where demand is lower. Do your homework, and you can't go wrong.

Ditto. When I go to look at a vehicle, I'm really interviewing the seller. I won't say I haven't picked one that I shouldn't have, but I usually do pretty good. If something seems fishy about the seller, there's probably something wrong with the vehicle.

As said before, check out the classifieds. Be patient, your truck will appear. Use the force, Luke!

I agree with Phil, your truck will come to you. I had almost given up on finding a standard cab 4x4 with a 5 speed when a co-worker told me of a family friend who was thinking of selling. The rest is history. It is hard to hold out, but it will be worth it.
