Whiners! THEY created the monster..

This is intended for diesel trucks. Specifically DODGE, Ford, and Chevy. Please list the best Highway MPG you have gotten. What speed you were at. No on-board computer calculations please. Sevral people on the Ford site have indicated that we exaggerate. I dont, I have nothing to gain. ----- 26. 9 mpg, 65 mph.

Y2K, 2500, 4x2, QC, 3. 54 LSD, patriot blue. K&N, silencer ring put back in. 11500 miles as of 11-20-00. best milage:26. 9 transmission reflashed

21mpg one Saturday (notebook/pump calculation) from Las Vegas to Pioche,NV and back... did a little local putt-putting while there... . speeds were variable from 50-ish to 90+, averaging, probably, 65-70.

That's got to be a big sigh of relief compared to the Lightning's mileage. I've heard of 27mpg out of Cummins B5. 9 powered trucks before. One being a Chevy Suburban with a 3. 21 ratio rear end and a Cummins under the hood. I get 20. 5 consistantly and that the highest I've gotten with 4. 10 rear and . 74 overdrive. I can believe 26. 9 out of your auto/3. 54 at a steady cruise of 65. My buddy's PSD 4. 10/auto gets 14-15mpg. The best mpg I've gotten while towing our 4,400 lb flat faced was 17mpg 58mph almost 400miles.

Two years ago last September I drove from Memphis, Tn. to Greenville, SC. to Norfolk, Va. and back to Memphis on vacation. The air conditioning was on for the complete trip. The trip East was on the Interstate as much as possible. The trip back West was a mix of Interstate and other roads. I set the cruise control on 82-84 MPH where ever posible, and as high as prudent elsewhere.
There were two people and luggage in the truck, but no other load.
I keep accurate records of all fuel and other costs. This trip resulted in a mileage figure of 23. 1 MPG. I was very happy with this.
My everyday MPG driving the not loaded truck in and around Memphis has been 17. 6 for the last two years.

Also have 1984 Volvo D260 with inline 6 diesel made by Volkswagen.

Best= 19. 6 coming home from Sandia Showdown in Belen, NM. Set the cruise at 85. I have since been in the low 18's on the road and the truck has a lifetime mileage figure of 16. 1 with 40% of the miles towing in the city. I have alomost 29K on it now.

20. 5 mpg, figured at the pump. Mostly highway miles, cruising at 75 with a 5 speed and 3. 54 gears.
As a side note, That is the only tankful of Diamond Shamrock fuel I've ever had in my truck. Normal mileage, same situation with different fuel is 19 mpg average.

correctly valved 5 speed. White, Brown Manf. brushguard and rear bumper,Sprayed in liner, Stock plate and AFC properly adjusted. That's all for now. More to come.

In my first Ram (95CC 5 spd. 3. 54, 2wd) on stock sized tires I had the pump *turned up* but nothing wild... I once got 25. 53mpg on cruise at 62mph. On my 'new' Ram, a 97 4x4 2500, Ive only made one road trip, and at 70 on cruise with the a/c on, I got a calculated 23. 54mpg, plus the over-tall tires, it's closer to 24mpg!

27. 6 mpg has been the best on I-80 from Cheyenne WY to Des Moines IW. 676 miles on one tank, refilled with 24. 5 gallons. Cruise set at 65,only one stop. 5000 ft elevation drop between Cheyenne and Des Moines(I still call it flat). Pretty good for a '95 2500 4x4 auto Cummins don't you think?12 valve of course. Also once got 26 mpg on I-5 in the CA central valley @ 65. 22-24 is typical empty if I keep it under 65.

I do real good commuting to work. It's about 40 miles @ 45 MPH. There is about 4 lights on the way. I get 23 usually.
Highway isnt as good. I went to Ohio last summer, got 22+ on the way out (dad driving, 65 MPH tops)
On the way back, I drove. I got just over 20 @ 80+ MPH most of the way.
A/C on full blast both ways.
Yea, I'm the guy that ties up the fuel pump for 45 minutes, getting that last drop in. #ad

20. 6 all interstate with cruise at 65mph. 3. 54 ratio towing empty car carrier. No traffic at 3 AM so I never had to touch the brakes for the 180 mile ride, other than for one toll booth.

My 95 psd 4. 10s gets 12 in town and usualy 14 on the highway I did hit 18 one time going to Arizona.
My 2001 Dodge 3. 54s gets 17. 5 in town and 20 on the highway hardly ever go down the highwy under 70mph
I had a 93 gmc 6. 5td that would get 24. 5 on the highway only problem was keeping it running long enough to go anywhere.

19 is the best so far, but I haven't taken a long road trip yet. I'll be going on an all highway trip at Christmas, so I'll see then. I'm usually getting 17. 5 - 18. 5 with mostly rural driving and some idling. Only 6600 miles on it.

17. 8 on a trip from Oakland Ca. to San Diego. Mixed speed, 50 - 80 mph. According to police radar, speedo was reading 5mph fast. Have since changed to 235 85 16 tires, the bigger diameter should fix the error. I am checking mpg this tank full, will update this post.

I have tracked every drop of diesel I put in my 1993 since I bought it new. The overall average for 126,000 miles is 18. 43 in all types of driving including about 30,000 miles towing. The best was 23. 65 at an average speed of about 55. The worst was 9. 9 at 65 mph towing into a 30mph headwind. I am running 3. 54s in the rear diff.
Happy Trails
