what are you doing? what year is your truck? sounds like you might be adjusting the valves?... ... .
give us some more info.
if you're adjusting the valves, i like the overhead valve adjuster. the one that has the knob handle. on the last set in the rear, you may be just as well to use the feeler guage. worked for me... .
the bigger pain in the ass was to get the timing pin popped in... ...
I am instaling 3K GSK's,DD2's, #10 plate, ats 3 piece exhaust, PDR HX35/14,BD exhaust brake,4 in exhaust, and 60lb valve springs, and eather a DTT or an ATS transmission
Not that I'm aware of, as far as not using a spring compressor. It is a Lisle tool. Should be able to get it from NAPA or some other auto parts store. Got mine from Farm and Fleet here. They're a bit of a pain in the butt to use, but they do work.
You'll regret the Lilse tool that Geno's sells. That handle makes almost every spring harder to remove because you can't screw the compressor down onto the springs. It's near impossible in the back cylinders. Also when you do get it squeezed down you'll often need a pry tool to get it to release. I was able to use it by cutting the lower handle off to about 1. 5" and using the bolt only to operate it. Used it once because I had nothing else then threw it away.
There's a much better compressor from KD #3271. It has a removable knob on top that gives room at the back. Same one is available from Napa at about $48. 00. It's available from a couple of online places for as little as $25. 00 but they make you buy a minimum of $50. 00 to order anything.
Also, there are two rubber plugs up under the firewall overhang that makes everything easier when you take them out. You'll have to pull the soundproofing away to see them.
