Whats this?

On the motor im rebuilding I noticed that there is a cannister on the passenger side that has a line going in and one going out. They are high pressure lines. It says something about a heat exchanger on the side. What is it? Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you're describing the auto trans fluid cooler ... located on the aft end of the engine ... .

If it is on the front side of the engine its prolly the oil cooler.

Its on the rear part of the engine near the bellhousing about midway up the engine. The 5. 9 I rebuilt in class last year had the oil cooler in the block and I thought they were all like this. Anyway, it was an auto motor if that helps.

Cool, thanks I kinda figured thats what it was but I wasnt 100% sure. Since Ill be using an NV4500 I wont be needing that. Is it something that goes bad a lot so maybe I could give it to someone who would need it?
