I sure hope they compensate her for that J. Mail/parcel delivery has to be hell on a vehicle.

I suppose I've been lucky reading all these posts. I've not had any issues with UPS or FedEx at all. I just recently received shipments from both. Ordered some gear for my son on Sunday, delivered by UPS yesterday morning.
I had to order a reseal kit for the gear box exchanger on my son's Jetta. Ordered late Monday, parts were in my hand before noon yesterday via Fed Ex. Parts came from Idparts in Mass and were OEM seals. And this has been pretty consistent. I do all my maintenance spring/fall so as to avoid wrenching on vehicles during the summer and winter months and order most of my OEM parts online. I've not had a problem or delay yet.

I gave up on USPS a long time ago. If it's too big to fit in an envelope I avoid em like the China Virus.

I'm a warehouse manager and I know these problems all too well. Bottom line is capacity. They're all swamped. UPS, FedEx, common carriers... they're all affected by this. Little known is the fact that most, if not all, international freight coming into the US must sit somewhere for a minimum of 24 hours before delivery. The package couriers aren't equipped to handle this. Their systems are designed to pickup, sort, transfer, deliver... nowhere for the hold to occur.

I've heard of LTL terminals being staffed at less than 50% due to COVID issues. What used to be 1 day service (Mass. to CT) can now take 3 or 4 days.

The holiday season (already in full swing) will tax everyone's systems. If you haven't bought it yet, you might not get it.

Amazon having their own fleet helps, but they're only handling something like 25% of their total volume right now.

Also, everyone has raised prices and/or added surcharges due to all the extra steps required.

It won't get better overnight... gonna take a long time to straighten out the mess.

Another thing... I can't bear to look into the back of my UPS delivery vehicle anymore. The torn, crushed, and otherwise damaged packages seems to be growing exponentially.

I gave some extra time since it is the season (though tank is coming FedEx Freight) but it is almost 7pm so highly doubt it will be delivered today. When I check tracking it says " No scheduled delivery date at this time", "Scheduled delivery pending". I will be gone during their "normal" delivery time if they try to deliver tomorrow and it needs a signature so...

"No Delivery Date At This Time" may = still in an inbound trailer that they haven't unloaded yet....

Our UPS in the interior of Alaska is jammed up with seasonal work. They hire anyone who can fog up a mirror.....speaking of mirrors, I ordered a set 2 weeks ago and a seasonal worker delivered 15 packages to incorrect addresses the day my stuff arrived in town. Luckily UPS found it after day 5 of being at the wrong house.....didn’t even make it to the same zip code.

My wife did all of her Christmas shopping when we were in MI in OCT when we were at the RV parks. She would sit on her I-PAD and order what she wanted to give for gifts to the grandkids for Christmas. When we got home, I had to make a trip to the daughters and my wife's cousin house to pick-up the packages. Boy I am glad I have a Mega Cab it was packed. She wanted to beat the rush and knew from past problems that shipping would be an issue.

What has been purchased now has all been bought locally at B&M stores.

The tracking info finally updated. After my shipment was picked up at the vendor, it sat at the UPS origination facility for 3 days. Now it’s been in transit for 4 days with 3 days left for delivery. What a mess they have.

That's inexcusable handling and a direct reflection on management. I'd be on the phone with customer service

So yesterday the last location update said Albuquerque with a delivery of 3 Dec. Which is what the invoice said it would be. Today it says El Paso at 1:14am but delivery date is still "pending".

Mine made it to Atlanta at noon today. That’s s 85 miles from here. It is scheduled to take three more days to get here. Amazing.

UPS Ground means it is the last in row, if there is space in the Truck they load it. If there is more important cargo then it will stay in the warehouse for some more time.

My old business partner's brother spent his entire career with UPS, starting out sorting parcels, to driving a "package car", to driving "feeders", to well into the management food chain. To distill a very long story down, UPS lifers, who actually know how to move packages and adjust for seasonal surges, have been displaced by the typical MBA idiots, and their idiotic decisions to theoretically save $0.0001 have led to chaos and unpreparedness. After retirement, they kept calling him back as a consultant to get them through the holiday snarls. He finally got fed up cleaning up the messes from these educated idiots, and told them "no more".

My latest tracking update says it will be delivered today. That will give me a chance to get the job done before the temps drop into the low 20s tonight.

Mine still says "Delivery date pending". The base doesnt accept freight delivery on Saturdays so I doubt they will make the trip out here just for me. Maybe Monday...

We are in a remote area, dirt roads, no streetlights. UPS was reliable until this year. Now they come at 7pm and deliver my stuff to the neighbor on a road behind us, different name road, different address. That lady brings it by a day or so later, rings the bell, says in merry Mexican accent voice "UPS". Had to tell a lost UPS driver where a certain address was the other night.

In my neighborhood we rarely see UPS or Fed Ex anymore. During this holiday season I have seen countless Amazon vans, Penske trucks delivering packages, unmarked delivery vans and some even using their own vehicle. We have bought most of our Christmas gifts online this year and have found that Amazon is often much more expensive than if you shop around. I have ordered many parts from RockAuto. I have compared costs and unless there is a very good deal it is often a wash on cost with my local autoparts shop. RockAuto really seems to get you on shipping costs. At some point I think the pendulum will swing and a certain number folks are going to want to shop in a brick and mortar store again.

They've been using U-Haul box vans here!
