05 HO Head on a VP 24Valve??

Broken Torque Convertor hub. What would cause that.

Just an update after talking with II again today. .

One possible culprit may be the intake. I notice I can drag my filter minder way down. . like more then half. I have the AFE stage 1 and use the stock intake tube with those baffles in it. Air Cleaner is spotless as I cleaned it just before the first turbo install. Does anyone else have this same problem?

thanks

ordered a smarty today. Also pulled the AFE off to test if that was the bottle neck. Ran it down the street and there was no change in performance so the theory that the Air intake was choking it seems to be null. Tried to check for exhaust manifold leaks but I need a better scope for that. Anyway, I'll report back when i have something new. thanks all.

Have you ran it with the TST off? Just wondering if your egt was still abnormally high with stock fueling... ?

I have a larger turbo, which should be much laggier. But it is not. My egts are higher at 20-30-40mph due to less boost at those speeds. They are normal at highway cruising speeds. And if I go to almost wot, they go to 1200* and stay there.

Got the smarty today and ran several of the programs. Removing some of the torque managment helped quite a bit however it's still a really laggy pig. I know everyone thinks I'm not excepting I will have more lag but this is rediculous. Trying to pull a ski boat out of the water on a moderate ramp is a major choir now. There has to be an issue with this turbo. Heat is off the charts. . over 1600 degrees fast... have to back out of it. Also can't get over 35psi. I am wondering if II reset my wg to 35 psi when it was up there. Doesn't matter how much fuel I throw @ it. I'll be talking to II tomorrow.

Did II recommend a Device to replace the Actuator that was on the stock unit (Turbo). . I don't think the Smarty has the capacity to disable the Device.

Oh I see what you are talking about. Yes actually II sent me a device with the turbo that clips on to the cable that previously connected to the stock turbo. That's in place. Just installed a real aggresive smarty program and took it out again. . This program takes off most if not all of the torque managment evidently and the truck really responds now off the line. Still no boost over 35 psi though. It's getting gobs of fuel. I even uped my tst to 6 power 6 torque. So II must have set the WG to 35psi. I think that is my biggest issue now. Lots of hesitations/spuddering though. Not smooth power. Feels like the turbo is choking up.

35 psi is still enough to produce some hp/tq, and boost would have nothing to do with the rough running conditions. Something is just Not right. . Do you have the means to find what the IATs are...

35 pounds of boost can make good power. . My truck wouldn't spool past 39 pounds on the dyno, and made 543hp. . Even with a 14, spool should be very good. My K&N system also sucks down the little restriction meter. I normally take it pretty easy on the street though, only really get on it at the track. .

there is a little alen head screw on the compressor housing that controls the wastegate. go about a half turn in should put you at about 40-45psi. that may help with egts a little.

you really need to play with the wastegate elbow if you haven't already...

I realize it's not a 3rd gen, but I got 55psi out of my sps62 on my 12v with just a fuel plate and governor springs! stock injectors :)

Unfortunatly I don't. What kinda tool would I need for that? thanks

Talked to II today. Apparently they just had another mega cab 06 in there with the same issue with the same turbo. Nice to hear I'm not the only one. They told me they aren't suggesting the SPS62 turbos to 06 mega cabbers at this point till they figure out the issue. They suggested I move to the compounds or a sillver 66. I don't know that I want to shell out the additional dollars for the compounds. I'm also a little worried about the lag on the silver 66. I can also get my money refunded. those are the options on the table.

Oh yuk. I'm on a quest for a new turbo, and this doesn't sound promising.

My configuration is good on the east coast, but a little hot on the west coast.

In fact, I was coming out of Salt Lake heading east with 5 horses last week, and I really needed to pedal this thing to keep EGT's in check.

I've made that pull before without the Flux 1's and it wasn't so bad, but there just aint much air out there in that heat at those elevations.

I am running a HTB2 62/14 and am thinking of going down to a 12 exhaust housing to help with towing. I don't get enough boost when towing with my 35" tires and 3. 73's.

I drove a 12V the other day that I built/tweaked with a SPS 62 on it and it flat rocks, hard to believe that turbo makes that much power... ... 600 or close!

This truck was 446 on #2 and 496 with Water/Meth years ago with an HX-35/18. 5 then went to a borrowed HX-40... ... mine, and now to the 62! Says his towing power is at it's limit because of the noises from strain, not from EGT's
