Been using a Spyderco Triangle for many years. I've sharpened HS lathe tools by hand with stones and used stones for knives early on. It doesnt take but a New York minute to lay on a razor edge with the triangle sticks.

If you have a knife made with a good alloy steel, you dont need to sharpen it very often. The best knife steel I've found is D-2. There are others. GregH

Can you name a few specific brands and/or models that use that steel, Greg? I've been looking specifically for a good spring-assist or boot knife. The knife market is so flooded with cheap trash anymore that I'm overwhelmed. The once-trusted brands are infiltrated with import junk and it's easy to get burned.

SRath, The D-2 knife I used was a custom knife borrowed from a friend. The commercial D-2 knives have only recently(a few years) been available. Heres one that you can find at Sportsmans Warehouse. That being said, proper heat treating is a must. Here is a Cabelas link to one of the commercial knives. "Knives of Alaska" have several models in D-2. Cabela's: Knives of Alaska Magnum Hunter Series Knives

If you are interested in making your own I can send you to a knife makers supplier that carries D-2 stock. Hope this helps. GregH
