Question for those who know...

Are the rear wheel cylinders the same size for the 2500 and 3500 on the model '99's? Seems like a while back there was a little talk that there was a year where the 2500 and 3500's were, but I maybe mistaken.

Thanks guys.

There were some running changes on the rear cyl size coming out of factory. Most of the 99's we have done were already 1 1/16 bore size which is the same as the 3500. For the best braking the 3500's should be changed to 1 3/16 which is the correct size for the 3 1/2 shoes. Dodge was a little behind the 8 ball. All the sizes are a direct fit. ----Sam

Hi Joe---The part numbers are in wagner brand and just about any parts store should be able to interchange them.

1 1/16 is F79767

1 1/8 is F86000

1 3/16 is F79768

These will all fit the same. ---Sam

Thanks for that Sam. I have the '95 3500 cylinders on the rear now, but the braking still does not seem to be balanced as it should be. A lot better than it was stock, but the rear is really showing very little wear for the miles I've driven since the last brake job.

Re: Part numbers?

SAM---My 99 2500 has 1-1/16 cyl. Is it ok to use the 1 3/16 Cyl.

as replacements. Was wondering if it might screw up the rear anti-lock rear brake system.

Royal---The 1 3/16 size cylinders might make the rear brakes a little to grabby unless you are loaded all the time. It won't have any affect on the antilock other than when the rear wheels slide it causes the antilock to react. You might have a slightly lower pedal due to more fluid movement. You could go in between with an 1 1/8 bore size. Running the larger bore cylinders can cause a little grief on the slick or wet roads without additional weight in the bed. ---Sam
