Competition pulling setup

Competition Vallety District Fair

Well guys, I took the 90 out a couple of sundays ago, and needless to say I was very impressed with the truck in its stock trim. I knew the 3. 07's were gonna be tall and they were, but I was really worried about the open diffs. I really missed the lockers that are in my 75, but also knew that going in. I had some issues with the front drive shaft. The cv joint did not have enough flex to it. I will have to make some changes in this area, after the axels are switched out.

In the future I will be looking to trade out the complete axels (dana 61-71) for a set of 60F-70R with at least a 4:10 gear. At that time I will get the front drive shaft setup better, the size tires I want to run (38. 5X15X16. 5 inch boggers). Then I will try again and decide if I will need more gear or not. I might go with a doubler kit for the t-cases. This would kill two birds with one stone. Give me plenty of gear for tough conditions(@4:1 gear reduction)+ would have a standard low side(1. 96:1) for easier conditions, still have 4:10 gears to run down the highway with and aleviate my poor front drive shaft angle. After the gearing is situated, then the detroit lockers will go in, and she will be ready for auto transmission mods, and then MORE FUEL!!

The leaf spring lift in the truck was very flexy off road, and pretty soft ride wise, I was very pleased. I know its not a coil over setup, but it performed better then I hoped. I will be removing the bed and getting a shorty flatbed to solve my poor departure angle. Plan on moving the batteries to the flatbed, hidden of course, and then a set of stacks cab hi. The fuel tank will have to be switched to something on the bed, to prevent it being removed/punctured by the terrain.

Sorry for the long post, but I figured I bring you up to date since asking about the proper gearing a while ago. Am I missing anything?

Happy wheelin'

Michael
