Air Ride Gooseneck Hitch

BrakeSmart is shipping again!!!

Does the Reese Titan install below the factory class IV or do I need to remove it to put a Titan on? I checked and the factory hitch is not welded, it just appears to be welded. After closer inspection, I found that the rear of the frame is slotted. WOOHOO

Would be interested to hear from those that have installed the Titan in place of or in conjuction with the factory hitch.

Thanks,

Dale

It mounts in place of the factory hitch. Just uses 3 mount holes on each side instead of 4... with one of them being further back on the frame then stock.

Unless they have a new model of the Reese titan it mounts below the stock hitch on the 03-. Also the stock hitch holds the rear bumper so removing the stock hitch is not an option unless you buy the non-hitch bumperattachmnet.

If you do a search I posted somepics about this in late 03 and another member posted about his hitch that replaces the stok hitch hand holds the bumper on.

PS with Reese hitch it is VERY close to the ground and will drag over large bumps.

After much searching, I found a . PDF file for the Titan hitch. The Reese number is 45288 for the 03 and later RAMS. It DOES mount under the factory hitch. Leaving both hitches in place. Clearance does not bother me as much as it is the only hitch that will serve my function of 1700 pounds of tongue weight. Took about 2 hours to bolt on as I did it myself. Heavy hitch to have to lift into place with one arm while balancing and intalling a nut with te other. What took the longest was fishing the bolts through the frame. I hope nobody ever runs into the back of me. A step-bumper, a class IV hitch and a Titan Class V. That's a lot of metal!!!!

I had the titan on my SB- could not get the factory spare out without wrestling it with prybars- you might want to check on this. I ditched the titan and went to a wd with the factory reciver, the handling improvement alone was worth it. (Equalizer brand hitch)

Sorry, I didn't catch the third generation truck in your signature. It sounds kind of lame to scab such a nice receiver onto the bottom of the OEM hitch. I replaced my second generation OEM hitch with the Ultra Frame (12,000 WD) and was sure impressed with how much nicer it was. It really made the OEM hitch look cheesy.
