and is there some sensor underneath/close to the injection pump? I thought I read in my latest TDR a thread about changing the ip, and I thought the guy said he would change the cps at the same time because it's easy to get to with the ip out. ???

Thanks

Its right under the injection pump. easy to git at with the pump out. Im not sure how hard it is with the pump on. located where the timein pin is on a 12 valve

the service guy at the dealership told me that they have to remove the starter to do it because its on the flywheel housing...

You have an 2002 so he is completely wrong! The 98,99 and I think 2000 had a crank position sensor and a cam position sensor, the 2001 and 02 have just the cam position sensor. I tried to change mine with the pumps installed and couldn't do it. Some people have said they've done it but they must have some seriously small fingers and you know what that means! :-laf

When I took out my vacuum pump to fix the leaking seal I was able to get right in there and change out the cam position sensor though. Tell your service guy that I will bet him $100 bucks that the starter doesn't have to come out!
