Well, I guess it's looking like it's time to replace my LP. It's lasted for over 100,000 miles so I can't really complain.

Since there are no Dodge or Cummins dealers where I live, I figured I would just order one and have it mailed to me.

Iff'n you were me and you had my truck what folks have provided you all good service. Genos I'm aware of but it appears he only sells FASS and DieselManor only has Airtex. To be honest, I'm betting a stock style will serve me again very well though I don't know what the of a stock one versus one of the aftermarket is.

Thanks for any info you can provide... ... . john

The stock pump is a roll of the dice. You had good luck with yours, as many (myself included) have, however there have also been many who haven't had a stock pump last even 10,000 miles. Dodge also recognizes there's a problem with that pump in the configuration they used, which is why they're having dealers install in-tank replacements.

I would strongly second FDavid's recommendation for the FASS DDRP. The FASS pumps are absolutely bulletproof.

My lift pump on my 99' lasted 60k miles, i replaced it with a FASS 95. My dads 02' lasted all of 32k miles and wiped out the VP. It truly is a crap shoot with the stock pumps. He went with a complete FASS as well. The DDRP as Dave pointed out is a great unit. A couple guys at work are running them and have had good success. I think that's your best bet.

Nothing is bulletproof. The only "almost" bulletproof set up is an appropriate cam (with a lobe), and a 12v (mechanical) cam-driven lift pump. Everything else is questionable. I have the Airdog, it's been fine for me. I had to replace it once. They sent me a free replacement. So, you never know how long ANY of these aftermarket pumps will last. It may be 500. 000 or 5000 mls:)

So, good luck.

Ilian

I have only needed two factory L. P's and I have 255k on the clock. I have mine on the frame rail, pressure is solid and it's very easy to change it if needed. I do have a fuel pressure guage to keep an eye on things and also carry a spare pump incase.

Lift pump life

My truck has 121K on it and I'm running the original lift pump. It still carries 14psi and will not drop below 9 psi at the VP44 with wide open throttle and boost. Reason for the long life is probably the Vulcan Relo kit I put on when the truck was at 30K. I do however carry a spare Carter in the truck just in case. I figure that if I carry the spare, the old one won't quit. :-laf

That did not work for me still went through 3 even with the relocation kit before finally getting my AirDog sure wish I had your luck!!! You win door prizes too.

Thanks everyone for the replies. After looking at t he costs and given that 1) I dont have a whole bunch of cash right now and

2) I had such good luck with the stock one

I went with ordering a stock one from Eric and Vulcan since he's fairly local to me and has been great to work with in the past. I forgot about him when I was trying to find where to buy one.

Thanks again... ..... john

What does the Vulcan relo kit do? I'm new to diesels, I bought a 01 4x4 QC 2500 auto from my brother-in-law that had less than 55,000 miles on it. I've been reading the forums while I'm here in Iraq as a civilian contractor trying to find out the faults of the 24v 01's. I've put about 3000. 00 mlies on it when going home on leave. I know the front ends are junk as I've bought a new track bar ,Source Automotive stabilizer and a new steering box. Thanks
