what is the best oil and fuel filters to use. i have been using wix for 5 years, they supposedly make the fleetgaurds??? and the cummins dealer acts totally annoyed when i go and ask about anything for a dodge truck, i don't know how much they make but they aren't worth a crap in peru illinois. anyhow, after reading that last issue i would like to switch from rotella to premium blue but don't know where to get it for a good price. sorry for asking but the search engine does not work for me no matter what i try. i don't understand why and i am totally frustrated with it, it seems about worthless and it used to be such a good tool. thanks much

The only store where I've seen Valvoline PB around here is Advance Auto Parts. I am also switching away from Rotella after reading that TDR issue.

Not so fast! The article listed Rotella CJ-4 (the old stuff) and Valvoline CI-4 plus. Can you say apples and oranges? The Rotella I have been buying for quite awhile meets API service CI-4 plus. Then there is the last sentence in the article, "I wouldn't worry about the performance of any of them in your vehicle's engine"

I have used the Valvoline. Flying J had a deal on it this spring, $12 for two gallons. I bought and used 4 cases, would have bought more but didn't have the room.

The nice thing is Rotella is easy to find and as the OP has stated, Valvoline outlets are not. Personally, I'm not sweating it.

On edit; I bought a water pump in Normal, Il. They couldn't have been more hospitible, they let me change it in their parking lot. I don't see a Cummins place in Peru.

I have bought fleetguard filters fron Cummins all over the U. S. Not once have I felt like the counter guys were annoyed because they were for a Dodge. Why would they be? It's not like they get more pay for supplying parts to big trucks.

Umm, CJ-4 is the "new stuff" and CI-4+ is the "old stuff" What article is being referred? I would like to read it. I have had good UOA's with CJ-4 Rotella and will continue using it. Here is a link to my recent UOA on BITOG.

Yup, you are right. Forgot my alphebet due to excessive beer ingestion. I'm still not sweating it.

I've seen the Valvoline at Checker Auto in Colorado. It was the most expensive diesel oil they carried but the only one that had a Cummins emblem on the front. Went with Rotella just to save a few bucks.

:-laf I can relate... but I am wondering what article put the new Rotella T at the bottom of the list for motor oils?? Have any idea?

TDR issue 56, page 50. The way I read it Mobil Delvac 1300 super was the lowest quality, but Rotella wasn't that much better. On the other hand I take comfort in the last sentence that I quoted previously.

I used rotella also, but after going to Indy, and not seeing Shell around and seeing Valvoline there supporting the event. I switched cause of them taking the time to show up. The Article showing the Valvoline being a top rating oil was just a nice extra for me.

Like GAmes said, you are comparing apples and oranges... the new CJ-4 Valvoline PB looks weak compared to its CI-4+ oil, (I can only find the CJ-4 PB here now)and only UOA from these oils will prove if they are up to the job. I and others have posted very good UOA from the new Rotella, but have not read any from the new PB or Delo or Castrol. BTW, I had analysis performed on the new Rotella before putting it in my engine... TBN was 10. 3, after 7,400 miles, TBN was still strong at 8. 3!

Fleetguard is Cummins filter division ( Cumminsfiltratiom.com) and is not related to Wix. Use LF3894 , the Strtapore media filter, on your 2002 or older engine. LF16035 ( which has the fluted shell ) is for the HPCR engines but is interchangeable with the LF3894. Valvoline Premium Blue was originally developed by Cummins. Shadrach

I'm buying Premium Blue at Advance auto down here it is only a couple dollars more than Valvoline Alll Fleet Plus I was getting at another parts store.

You can get Fleetguard filters from Genos Garrage.

Fleetquard is a Cummins company, they make their own filters. (Stratapore and the MicroGlass are the best filters. )

Wix is Dana company they also make their own filters.
