Where's the best place to get a block heater cord for an '05 that didn't come with one from the factory(other than the dealer of course)?

We sell them for $33 here in the parts dept

I dont think you'll find it on ebay -But maybe cummins?

Regarding the block heater -- Can it be left plugged in without risk of harm to the truck even if the ambient temperature gets up into the 80's? Does it heat any of the fuel system components and if so, how well? Thanks.

Last time I checked they were $26. 00 from Geno's. Don't know about shipping cost.

Yeah Napa carries them here. They are like $5-10.

jGann, why would you want to leave the block heater plugged in when it's 80* outside? You only need to use the block heater when it drops below 20*.

As stated by SRadke the cord is generic. However, the Mopar/dealer cord comes with the barbed pin clips that attach the cord to the frame in predrilled holes just like it would come from factory. A generic cord will require you to ty-wrap the cord to something to secure it. Check my gallery for photos of the factory Mopar cord that I installed using the factory frame holes.

I know that Nate. Sheesh! It's personal, man. Can't a guy have some secrets? #ad

So anyway -- can you w/o damage? Does it heat anything other than the "block?"

I can't imagine that it would hurt anything other than your electric bill. It only warms up the engine coolant.

I suspect it would near the engine but it's gunna be just as cold back in the tank and the line. Just buy fuel that has been mixed with #1 and you'll be fine.

Ah... just making sure. Never know with some people on these webboards.

Ok I was told by the dealer these trucks do not need to be heated so I orded mine with out . Am I corect in saying all the 05s have the block heater but I must buy the cord? And if so are they hard to install. Ski

Yeah,

They all come with the heater, but not all with a cord.

Takes about 5 minutes to install one.

Basically plugs in and then tighten up.

Was going to buy one at the Dodge dealer in Rawlins, Wyoming about a year and a half ago, they wanted $65. 00, I told them that it was a rip off and walked out. :-{}
