Running boards that mount to cab bolts?

Anyone give me a direct comparison between Coopers and Michellins?

Can anyone tell me where to get a good fuel pressure gauge kit - preferrably one with an isolator. I want an all-inclusive kit if possible so I don't have to run around finding fittings, etc, etc.

Go to www.summitracing.com and serch under fule pressure gauges. They make a sport comp kit that includes a 0-15psi gauge and the isolator for about 80-90 bucks. All you need to buy additionally is the line to go from the isolator to the engine pressure port. Find out what size the fuel pressure port is and buy AN fittings and line. You will have a system that can withstand WELL over 200psi. The line will be small so the line and fittings should only be an additional 40 bucks maybe but well worth it in the end. Your best bet is to call them on the phone and talk to the tech department so there is no confusion and also they will tell you what fittings you need once you give them the size

I have read that too, thats why i said get your part numbers first. I have used Summit for alomst 10 years and yes, in most cases there tech department knows nothing about diesels. But they do know about automotive stuff. The only thing you need from the tech department is what size AN line and fittings. That has nothing to do with Diesels so dont worry. So ordering a gauge and some line from them wont be a problem. Also, if a gauge goes bad, you dont even have to call summit. Call Autometer directly at 815-895-8141. There customer service is great. The only reason i do use Summit is they have the best prices in most cases and they have alot of stuff in stock.

I think the problem is with the mounting of a mechanical sender on a diesel engine. The vibrations just kill them (not the pressures). I have my autometer 4361 on order and I plan to mount the electronic sender on the firwall (free from vibrations). I will then run a braided hose from the fuel filter to the sender. Airplanes always mount their mechanical senders remotely.

A temperature sensor on the other hand is safe to mount on the engine as it is a solid state thermistor.

Mine WAS mounted remotely from the injection pump and engine, with a line running to it. The sending unit still failed. Summit claims that AutoMeter will no longer replace these units & gauges if used in a diesel application. I haven't had time to call AutoMeter and get the straight scoop, can one of y'all please do it, and post what they say, on here, please?
looks like a bad idea to buy from Summit, right now.

I went though two remote mounted senders on my S-W fuel pres gauge before deciding to just go with a mechanical gauge with a pulsation dampener. I ran diesel into the cab, which I feel is no big deal, it's not like gasoline. Been running motor oil into the cab for oil pressure gauges for years with no problems. 6 months with no problems at all and it cost me less than $25 total.

Check my post in this forum that talks about the Summit problem. I called Autometer and you can read what the story is. The Autometer Mechanical fuel pressure gauge with Isolator is Summit P/N ATM-3313, the price is $99. 95. And by the way, dont worry about what Summit says, deal with Autometer directly in regards to problems. If you would rather deal with Summit on the problem, just dont tell them you are using it on a diesel. Tell them its a a gasoline powered vehicle and before you send it back, throw the sender in a a cup of gasoline which will remove any trace of diesel fuel and make it stink of gas (believe me, they are not going to send it to a forensics lab to be sure). Then maybe they will shutup and honor the warranty.

Bent6,

You did not mention what year your Ram is, the 2000+ need some addapters to 1/8 NPT, but '99 prior do not, AFAIK.

This past monday I order directly from Westach, a 15 psi gauge with LED warning and sender, to match the rest of my Westach units. Geno's backordered the triple pilar skin, so it will be another week or two before I can report how the setup works. Westach didn't feel the diesel fuel would be an issue. And since it is an electronic unit rather than mechanical, at least I don't have to worry about fuel in the cab.

About $110 for the setup.

I just talked to Summit. I told them that I had heard of the above mentioned problems and the guy I talked to couldn't understand why it wouldn't work with diesel fuel. For the time being, I chose to cancel my order for the 4361 until I get the uncertainties resolved.

smoker, there are two ways to tap into the post filter line. You can buy a metric bolt to 1/8" pipe thread adaptor from TST ($25) that replaces the bleed screw on your fuel filter and go from there. The way I did it though was to remove the fuel inlet banjo bolt from the injection pump and tap a 1/8" pipe thread hole into the center of the bolt head. I went this route because there is plenty of room in that location, it doesn't get in the way, you can still use your bleed screw and best of all there is nothing to buy but a $5 tap if you don't have one.

Dresslered: There are no more uncertainties, call Autometer direct if you have doubts. But you will save money and have better accuracy with the mechanical setup.

Then the only real difference that I can think of between gasoline and diesel is that the sulfer content is much higher in the deisel and it might be a materials issue. Perhaps the mechanical gauge is the real answer.

I did illflem's first suggestion.

1 - TST adapter $25
1 - Boost gauge install kit ( contains fittings etc ) $8
1 - Liquid filled 60psi gauge from grainger $8

Basically $41 for a mechanical gauge setup. Contains all the pieces needed, easy to order, etc. I did not permenantly mount. Can install in mintutes and test anytime I want.

Hey guys, remind me again. Where do I tap into the fuel system and how do I do it when I install a fuel pressure gauge on my 12 valve?
