For sometime I have been wanting to install a separate fuel filter for my 96 Ram 3500 5. 9. After receiving several suggestions from a previous forum question, I purchased a Raycor Model 645 filter/water separator and water detection kit. It measures about 4" wide, 7" high and sticks out @5"

Originally, I was just going to tie into the fuel line before the OEM filter and use them both. However, since I have the water detection kit, I'm thinking it might be better to just get rid of the whole OEM filter. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Also, I'm open as to locations to install this new filter. I'm looking forward to being able to access and change this one a whole lot easier than the old one.

I have a fuel preporator = air dog+fass, bolted it to the frame under the bed, kept my OEM filter, doesn't hurt to double filter your fuel.

I presume this is with the stock pump?

I would plumb it in before the stock filter and leave the stock filter, can't hurt. Then just wire the WIF sensor separate and double your detection.

On a Diesel suburban I used to own, I plumbed an aftermarket water separator in between the fuel pump and the stock filter and had no issues. I think on the 12valve, you will want to have it in this order: tank>electric pump>aftermarket filter>stock lift pump>stock filter>IP. Make sure that the electric pump and filter don't create a restriction for the stock lift pump.

Did you notice a difference w/ the AirDog on how the engine runs overall? Is it worth the $$?

Dr Bob,

I see in your sig your dyno numbers. Are your mods conservative? Or in other words I got 446/950 w/ a 175 HP pump. My sig needs updating everything except 0 plate has changed. Your 215 HP pump should hit 600 HP?

The main thing I noticed was the engine got quieter, more mellow, the best thing no more filling the fuel filters. The fuel prep was before Brad (FASS) and his dad (AIR DOG) split up. Everything keeps going $up, but I've had it for over 10 years and not a problem.
I have not tried to push my HP I still have the stock clutch.
