Silverline Exhaust Opinions??

I am about to mount an inline 4" Pacbrake on my truck and am wondering if the distance from the turbo to the brake makes a big difference or not? It is definitely easier to mount down by the transmission/transfer case area but barring the road spray, etc does this mounting area work as good as up near the turbo?

I installed my US Gear D-Celerator near the transmission. US Gear just says install before the muffler. It is on my 2002 International with an Allison trans and about 6 ft from the turbo. When engaged, it holds the truck back very very well.

Closer to the turbo will give you faster engagement but I have mine right at the end of the downpipe along side the transmission and I'm happy with how fast it engages. Also makes the downpipe a lot easier to get out having a flange and band clamp on each end ;)

I would say just find a straight section of exhaust you can get to, and put it there. When did PacBrake start building one inline. This thing seems to be catching. Could US Gear have had a good idea?

I have a USG and put mine just before the muffler. Works fine, BUT you HAVE to be sure the exhaust pipe between the eBrake and the engine has GOOD integrity (no leaks) or you will not get good braking. I put mine there because it was easier to hang the eBrake weight off of a body bracket at that point.

I did an air pressure actuated and have the compressor in the bed. Shorter air run as well.

Thanks everybody, I will probably put it near the transmission and give it a try. I'm in Arizona for a bit and don't have all my tools available so the easier the better, for now.

Bought at Camping World for a great price so I want to use it on the way home. I am told Pacbrake makes a 5" inline as well.

I asked the same question a few years back and got some good replies, I ended up installing mine beside the transmission (NV4500 at the time). When the NV5600 went in the brake had to be moved a bit to make room for the solenoid to clear. Here's a link to my post.

Weld all the seams upstream of the brake.

I spend plenty of time in crappy winter weather, snow, ice, salt etc and never had a problem with my brake in over 3 years.

Good Luck,

Mike

My International's exhaust pipe was welded all the way to the muffler clamp. I put the brake between there, torqued the band clamps to 60 ft. lbs. as per the instructions and no leaks. Seriously thinking of getting one for my 6 spd. Dodge.

I also have the USG unit and it is mounted approxamatly right across from the transfer case. Like others have said, make sure all connections are air tight or it will not function properly. I don't know how heavy the Pacbrake is, but I know that I wouldn't want to try to mount the USG in the down pipe, it's heavy.
