No i have set timing by drop valve and timing pin both on this truck myself. I set it exactly at 16* and it did the same thing. The shop said that I had worn out delivery valves. The timing on this truck probably is not 18* either. the last time I set it was after I had to have it rebuilt totally, they set it at 18* and it ok but not great, when i got it back home (2000 miles), I slipped the timing and had to set it by ear and the way the engine runs. The truck has ok power, but the low end is not all there. I am inclined to see what 191's would do for me, and get the timing set back at 16*. I don't know though. What are symptoms of worn DV's. Also the truck does not run as smooth as most do, but not really unsmooth, and it sounds more like a growl than a diesel under load. other trucks like mine I have driven have a much smoother power band than mine. it just does not seem to run right. I could use a second opinion (ear) if you know anybody around Enid, Oklahoma.
