I got the Westach combo boost/egt gage in yesterday. the directions say I can either attach the boost connection hose by splicing into the boost line running to the wastegate valve or by connecting to the air horn by drill and tapping. they (geno's garage directions) suggest the later. has anyone try it both ways? which will result in the most accurate reading?

I would think that splicing into the waste gate boost line would result in a reading that would best reflect what PSI you acually have at the turbo...

Tom-
I spliced mine into the waster gate hose by putting a T port on the turbo where the waste gate hose fits in. One side goes to the gauge, other goes to waste gate. On my stock 98, I get almost 20 # of boost.

On the drivers side back by the fuel filter is a plug in the manifold that can be removed and the boost line placed there. That way you get a boost reading at the manifold.

I also used the 3/4" plug in the block. You will need a 3/4 to 1/8 adapter, other than that, an easy install. Click on my truck link below and you'll see a pic. of the install. I don't think I would go with a splice into the wastegate tube. From what I've read, the manifold or intake horn would provide a more accurate reading of your boost pressure.

The intake plenum is easier to get to, if you have a good tap set. It removes easily from the engine so you don't have to worry about dropping anything into the intercooler tube.

Go into the manifold. You'll get a false reading if you put in before the inter-cooler.

False reading? How? Why? And the intake plenum is after the intercooler and mounts to the intake manifold. I've been running with the boost gauge on my truck for a year and a half, loaded and unloaded. My boost pressures have been consistent with the numbers others have posted on this board and the response of the gauge has been consistent as well. To each his own. #ad

The intake plenum is after the intercooler so it shouldn't be a problem either way. I just pulled the plug next to the MAP sensor, took two adapters to get from 3/4 to 1/8 NPT and put in the sensor (SPA gauges). Ain't no thang. #ad
