After seeing the recent thread for making your own sport headlight harness I want to do this conversion on my '95 truck. My question is where to get the headlight assemblies. I assume the best quality headlight assemblies are going to be Dodge OEM units from the dealer. I did a search on factory units vs the various aftermarkets found on eBay but did not come up with much except some mixed opinions on the aftermarket Depo's. Are there any aftermarket units equivalent in quality to the factory sport lights? Do I take a chance with aftermarket assemblies from eBay or internet? Are OEM sport headlight assemblies worth the extra cost? Who's the best for buying factory parts nowdays? The last time I purchased genuine Dodge parts was in 2002 when I needed rear wheel liners and mopar4less had the best pricing.

Thanks

Assemblies

I think he's looking for the actual assemblies that the bulbs go in. Not the wire harness. Correct me if Im wrong. There's several different places to go to get them. I think the ones from ebay (headlightsdepot) are the ones that most people use.

I did see several different eBay sellers on of which was headlightsdepot. The ones I saw where listed as Dodge Sport 1500 headlight assemblies for 1999-2001 and came with a xenon 9007 bulb, and run $155 plus $20 shipping. They did look identical to the Euro ones listed in the link above.

I'll do a search on headlightsdepot and see what I can find.

So to do it right you need to buy the headlights (2 bulb configuration) from HeadlightDepot and sport light conversion from SUVLights - right?

Headlights depot sent me an email saying thier sport light assemblies are made by "Eagle Eye". I'm not sure how this brand compares to the Depo's everyone mentions. Anyone have experience or comments between the Depo or Eagle Eye light assemblies???

I recently installed the headlightsdepot sport lights in my '95. Can't really compare them to other sport lights, but my night driving is a way better experience now. The install took about 20 minutes per side plus about an hour making my own wiring harness (to add to the suvlights.com harness I installed years ago. The hardest part was cutting out the area behind the light. I used a 4" hole saw. One side went perfectly, but I had problems on the other side with the saw snagging on the thin metal and I ended up just using a sabre saw. I pulled the plastic trim off the bumper for a little more clearence for the install.

The units come with new bulbs, but one burned out in the first hour of use.

This is one of the best mods I have done to the truck. The beam focus is much better than stock, but not as good as the stock lights on my 2006 Camry. Wish I had done it years ago!

Did they have the adjusting srews? Seems I'm noticing some aftermarkets do not have adjusting screws and require a PIA shimming process to get things aimed right. How do they fit? I've read some posts about some aftermarkets not fitting good and having big gaps between the light assembly and fender.

I just ordered the sport headlights this morning and will call today to order the wiring harness with my 02 should be smooth on install I have a homemade bumper I can loosen and drop so I shouldn't have any problems getting the lights in the buckets. when I install them is it better or can you install the whole assy, the headlight with blinker housing. or do you have to install the headlight and blinker assy seperate? the cost for the sport lights with shipping was 164. 00 not bad for what I will get out of it. next will be the bulbs. what bulbs have you all been running sylvania, piaa bulbs, etc. what is the best bulb out there. white, blue, etc?

Daniel Stern sent me an email and he recommended the GE Nighthawk's for the 9004 bulb and Phillips Extreme Power for the 9007 bulbs. The link he sent for the Phillips bulbs was to a place called candlepowerinc.com and they where pricey, I think a little under $40 per pair.

Adjusting screws are part of the units I bought and are similar to OEM.

The light body is connected to the blinker housing with just one screw. There is a plastic track to slide the blinker section onto the main light. Takes about 10 seconds to remove or mount the blinker section, so it's easier to just separate them when installing new lights.

Hey Tuffram can you please pm me the link on the bulbs, I did the sport conversion last summer and am ready to yank the cheap bulbs and put in something better.

Thnx B.

yes watch out for cheap lenses, I was one of the guys burned on them last summer I ate $150 bucks.

there is a good thread on headlights from a few months ago , I bought the good sport lenses I think they were depo's? they came with bulbs and fit properly, then went with the SUV DLX wire harness. you wont regret the upgrade.

like said above only hassle was trimming the headlight area for the extra bulb, I did mine with the sawzall, other than that it took a hour to do and that was taking my time.

So you guys that have bought the lights off of ebay, have you had any trouble years down the road?? I had to buy a new china stock replacement a few years back before I knew of the sport conversion, and now the inside chrome has almost all came off and it looks black inside... makes for terrible lighting. Just want to make sure the ones on ebay aren't going to do that a year down the road... thanks!!

thanks those are nice looking bulbs any choice for the 9004's also what I'm going to do is take a before picture at night before the sport light swap and then a after picture. hopefully the pictures turn out good this way members can see the diff.

I ordered the philips bulbs today and also did a little google action on the GE Nighthawks, good feedback on them from diff sites.

FYI, here is a link to, Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

some good info there for us guys who like to study all the details

FYI, the GE Nighthawk bulbs are not everywhere at least around hear, I called around my area and no one has them, I stumbled onto a special at Amozon.com from the PT cruiser site, there $23. 00 bucks delivered , Amazon.com: GE 9004NH/BP2 Nighthawk Automotive Replacement Bulbs - Pack of 2: Automotive

thats a good deal on them and the brown truck shows up with them.

Peace, B.
