who has the best price for a dd trans pan?

am I wrong? w/ the B1's, I always heard about surge... or slow spooling... non-gated, etc.

w/ the newer 64-66mm schwitzer jobs, you've got both sides gated, quicker spooling, and fewer complaints about surge.

Ding Ding Ding

Forrest hit the nail on the head.

But the newest and greatest syndrome applys too.

These chargers spool faster and have better manners overall then the older technology chargers do.

try this on for size---

the II version of the s300's, which is the same as a B1,(stated previously) have the same prob's as the original B1--surging, etc. . don't let anyone tell you different--it doesn't happen on all trucks, but it has on more than a few--granted this was during the beginning of II's jump into the turbo market---this is just like what happened to the B1 and then Ken started with the different housings and and started putting wastegates on to combat the issues and also to sell them to more people and not to just High HP guys---

these aren't new turbo's like stated before--off the shelf with Ken's magic applied and could it be that it's been copied and copied and renamed and renamed-- just look at them they look like a B1---USB, the Phat Shaft and maybe the HTT line(I'll have to go look at them to see) and there's probably others---

I think the reason for the price diff, which isn't that far off anymore, is II isn't the middle man and all of Ken's turbo's have a middle man---chris

I talked to TDR people about turbo selection for a couple of years and the B1-2 was the most frequently recommended turbo for my application, right up into mid last year. Of course this was just before II's market hit critical mass and HTT started marketing units for use above 450hp.

I was told by one dealer that the KSB1 had surge in the 1700 to 1900rpm range, that is the only surging issues I ever heard of from the B1 line.

Not to get off topic, but while B1s are being discussed...

Question: Can a B1-2 be upgraded to a B1? Mine works fine now, but I am curious about improving airflow via exhaust manifold, intake horn (?), and perhaps camshaft allowing me to run a larger turbo while still maintaining the spool that I currently have.

I'd call Ken to be sure on what can be done to your current turbo--I believe that there are possibly some out there than can be changed around, but I could've misunderstood what was being said, but what I do know is you can't change it to a steroid---

I have never seen a B1 next to a SPS or an HTB2 in person, but when comparing cooling ability, they are all the same turbo, i. e. , they all use the same size compressor housing and the same compressor wheel. The 62mm B1-2 uses a Schwitzer 62mm extended tip wheel. The SPS62 and the 62mm HTB2 both use the exact same Schwitzer 62mm extended tip wheel. There really shouldn't be a measurable difference in the amount of power they all can make or cool. I have seen close-up pics of the SPS62 turbo and it looks like a twin brother to the B1-2 that I ran last year…right down to the custom cast B1-2 compressor housing and all. Hmmmm. I guess the different manufacturers could tweak their housings and exhaust wheels a little bit to change spool times and drive pressures. I know HTT offers their exhaust wheels clipped which helps drive pressures a good bit. Other than subtle differences, like the TAD serial number engraved into the compressor housing, it can be hard to tell them apart. Going with one of the "other guys", you can essentially get the same turbo, $400 cheaper, with a warranty, and a manufacturer that is easier to deal with. That is not a hard decision for most folks. They are all good turbos though and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

On the B1's, the quick spool housing makes you or breaks you on upgrading. Any regular B1 can be upgraded to any regular B1, but not changed to a KSB1. Any KSB1 can be upgraded to any KSB1, but not to a regular B1. If I remember right, the basic difference between the two is the different turbine housing and wheel. To go from regular to KS, too much has to be changed and it is really not cost effective, so TAD recommends you just buy a new turbo. I'm not sure if you sent a B1-2 to HTT and told them to upgrade it to a Big Brother that they would know what your talking about…. what a Big Brother was. They can do rebuilds easily as they just measure everything to see what replacement parts they need, but may not be up to speed on all the different B1 turbos enough to upgrade and get it right. Probably want to deal directly with TAD if your upgrading.

True, True. I was just curious if a PS66 and SP66 are copies of the steroid B-1. I guess not.....

Does ANYBODY (other than Ken or Kurt) have comp maps for B-1's??? Or any S-300 variants for that matter???
