Gooseneck VS 5th wheel

slide out room extensions

Big A there is a lot of good hitches out there just make sure that thay rock back and forth and sideways. If you don't you may find out the hard way that sometimes it wont release because the 5th wheel is in a bind. Hope this helps. joe

Alex, check this hitch out. I have heard nothing but good things about this product. I have personally spoke with these guys and they were extremely nice and couldn't do enough for me.

I opted for the Reese 15k Classic non rocker. I've heard tell of the rocker allowing the trailer to contact the bed rails on uneven ground. That and the old timers who have been towing for years have indicated an uneasy feeling about the trailer rocking freely when they're used to a solid hitch. We just got back from Milton Florida where there is alot of steep twisty driveway intrances in hilly country. The solid hitch allows only so much twist of the truck and trailer. Which is still about 2" up on one side of the plate. That amounts to alot without letting the trailer contact the truck bed. But on the other hand, I might have to locate more even ground to hitch and unhitch someday. I will post with the red face if that happens.
(edit) One more thought. The jaws on the Reese allow you to back into the hitch and it locks automatically. They are also by design less likely to bind than some of the lower priced hitches when you want to unhitch. They all work and they're all strong. Some are simply less headaches than others.

I also have the Reese 20K and can't complain. I personally am glad I went with the 20, the 15K would probably have done fine but I sometimes I pull for a dealer and the 38ft. triple axle Avions are pretty heavy. The extra 5K is then reassuring.

Big A,
Don't know if you bought your hitch yet or not, but here's my opinion, and you what they say about opinions!!! I found that when trying to unhook at the primitive campground sites, the rigid hitch could be a real pain to get unhooked. I'd have to rock the rig back and forth because the trailer might be twisted in opposite direction of the truck. With the "pivot" type hitch, hook up and disconnect is substantially easier. I had a Reese solid 12K with my first 5ver, now I've a got a Reese 15K that pivots.

Big A- I've got a rbw little rocker 15,000- 4 way pivot is the way to go #ad
and if you are uncomfortable with the side to side pivot you can lock it out- however that pivot ability can help you hook up when your space is really unlevel- I have had the traditional fifth hitch and the 4way pivot- also look into the B & W hitch - no rail in your truck bed http://www.turnoverball.com/ check it out- My next hitch---
as far as the side pivit damaging your bed- I've had more bed damage from the forward and back pivot than the side to side- make shure you have as much clearance as possible all the way around or change beds--- good luck #ad

I have a Reese Classic 18K. I have used it for 7 years and I would not trade it for anything. For those that don't think a free floating hitch is any good put this into your thought process machine. Trailer tilted to the left truck tilted to the right. This would equal bind. Bind equals bend. So what will bend something has to give I would rather it be my hitch designed for that purpose and not an unwanted frame alignment. Granted it isn't a dodge that my brother in-law owned it was a 94 Chevy 1 ton Dually with a Hitchiker 18,000 lb 5th wheel on an uneven ground (more than once). Started having problems with tires took to an alignment shop and was refered to a body shop first for a frame alignment. He purchase a new Reese full floating hitch once the alignment was done. Now you could not convince him to go back. Just some food for thought.
