Opinions Needed

My FASS failed today, 2000 miles from home... hopefully I can limp the rest of the way without a lift pump...

What AD would replace a FASS 95/150 in this 2004 (original filter-mounted pump)? I do not want to modify the tank, nor will I be pushing any major HP. The AD 100gph?

What is the best filter they offer that is comparable to the hf6604?

Thanks

AD 100 is what I used on my 04. 5 O E pump was on the side of the filter. Didn't have to drop tank for straw. If I were to do it again I would have used a Raptor pump and added my own filters form Glacier Diesel. better filters. but didnt have much time my pump failed and a dist. about 5 miles had the AD Just my opinion. I use Fleetguard filters on my set up

Make sure the AD has the new f/w separator on it, and the best filter for the final fuel filter is the P551315 from Donaldson.

Thanks.

For the record, this FASS has approximately 180k on it, it was installed five years ago. Its not like its not been babied, but failed to reach that advertised 600k mark.

Found this elsewhere:

Fuel Filter: Donaldson P551315 3um absolute
F/W Separator: Baldwin BF1275 96. 5% emulsified water sep.

Thoughts? I can't find specs... probably won't flow enough...

I don't have flow rates for that filter, but like the Fleetguard version its for a 3. 3L Cummins so flow is not great. But the Luberfiner is also for this application just rated higher. I would call Baldwin and see.

Which filter available for the AD has the best water rejection combined with the best filtration? I can't find anything on the Donaldson...

I already prefilter my fuel (via gravity) through a 10u "water blocking" filter, so water isn't a huge concern at this point...

Thanks for the offer Vaughn, it failed on the ride back to PA... lost it somewhere in Utah or Wyoming. I made it home last night, I had left midnight Friday... just beat that weather! I did get caught in some snow along I94, but not as bad as I'm sure it got!!

At least it was a good test, a cp3 will run without a lift pump, and survive over 2000 miles...

Glad you made it OK Steve, nothing worse than breaking down on the road. I broke down in western Nebraska on a Sunday evening with the '96 once.

We ended up getting about 10" of snow which is highly unusual for this time of year. A foot of snow is a bunch for us any winter, which normally happens only once every few years.

Well, I received my AD 100 yesterday, verified I received all the pieces.

Here's my likes and dislikes...

The AD uses all quick connections on premade hoses, so you either coil the excess or cut a section and splice. Looks sort of butchered, whereas the FASS uses push-loc connectors that allow you to custom make your own hoses. The AD uses plastic fittings, whereas the FASS uses metal push-locs... not sure if this will pose a long term issue or not?

Not sure it went together any quicker... took me about 6 hours between removing portions of the FASS system and installing the AD. I was sort of surprised at this because I installed the FASS a lot quicker... even with drilling the spring hangar. And that was puzzling because I actually had the previous FASS experience.

The bracket gives lots of flexibility without drilling the frame... HOWEVER, this also took the longest to get the correct placement. I also mounted the AD outside the frame, about under the driver's door. It took about four attempts to get it right where I wanted to... which meant a complete disassemble each time.

The AD uses 1/2" lines whereas the FASS uses 3/8"... not sure a low performance instance requires 1/2" lines when the tank connector is 3/8"?

The AD is amazingly quiet! I actually had to verify the thing was running when I purged the system. It pumped about a gallon in 30 seconds with no restriction (basically max flow). I flushed the system to ensure I didn't have any dirt, hooked it up, and fired it off... I also verified I had return to the tank.

I'm going to run a tank through then start siphoning again... I would hate to lose a tank of fuel because of a leak! I also wasn't able to install my pressure gauge or light because I didn't have the fittings, but that will come soon enough.

Well, lost about 10 gallons of fuel today when the quick connect at the CP3 popped off... it popped of enough to leak like a seive, but didn't come the whole way off so the truck still ran... I dumped fuel on about 5 miles of highway. The entire engine compartment and underside of the truck is dripping with fuel... wonderful.

The funny thing is I drove 300 miles from my place to my parents without a hitch... drove it 40 miles today and popped the fitting.

Will report back what I find out from AirDog... but I even left the paperwork at home not ever thinking there would be issues this soon, so it will be Tuesday before I can call them.

Called AirDog a few minutes ago... they are sending a replacement hose.

I also ordered their low pressure light kit (before I had the connector issue), and will be installing a gauge soon.

steved Im sorry for the fuel loss. That was one concern of my AD install I didnt like the rubber hose and the push on fittings that came with the kit. What I did was to install the kit as is, took the lines off and went to hose shop in town and had SS braided lines made up the shop even made a port in line for my press. gauge.
