I have done quite a bit of research on clutches lately and have a few questions. First off south bend makes single disk clutches that will hold 1000 ft lbs, or somthing like that. But they make duel disk clutches starting at less rating than that. What clutch should I go with. I would like to save the money and go with the FE but I really beat the **** out of my truck very often. I don't want to be doing this agian in a year. I don't plan on stopping with uping the power for a long time. I want to be up to 500 rwhp as soon as possible ( 1st gen VE pump, no laughing) I want the truck to remain streetable but I dragrace, dyno, off road and would probly not turn down a chance to hook to a sled once or twice. I guess the question is will a single hold or should I bite the bullit and go for a double. If so witch ones from where. Any info would be greatly apreciated.

I don't think there is a dual disc available for a small input shaft - 1 1/4". Maybe one could be built, or you could drop even more money on a nv4500 and big 1 3/8" input shaft.

I thought I have seen dual disks for 1 1/4 inputs. Not going to 4500 anytime soon $$$$ ouch. Any body have any recomendations on a dual disk?

Getreg sled pulling?!? Never heard of it.

What I have heard of is several people snapping 1 & 1/4" inputs with dual disk clutches. Yes EEP does make a 1 & 1/4" DD, but not only will you be replacing floater plates you will have to replace the input shaft "when" it snaps not if it snaps. They just can't handle the stress of the DD.

Sounds like Cade is gonna have to either learn to drive properly, or get out the credit cards, checkbook, lotto ticket, sell something to build it so it will handle *his* abuse:-laf;). Even the hardest/best parts will break if not handled properly. Maybe you should get yourself a beater gasser 4x4 to beat/wheel/mud/fool around in, and keep the 1000ftlb torque monster on the street. Would be cheaper too:D. Put them mudders on a truck they belong on LOL.

The Getrag can't even handle as much power as a Con O can hold let alone an FE or DD. And especially sledpulling... . BOOOM!

Why do you have this thread in the second gen area anyway? If you were asking about a 4500 swap than I would understand or if you had a P pump on your engine I would too. ???

Comon know guys How can I go and brag about my truck and how awsome these engines are if I have to buy a gasser to beat on  . I am prepared to break parts that's part of the game. I also believe that the getrag is seriously underated, I hope :D And if guys like stomp and Bill are still running them it will be ok for a while and if nothing else nun of the gears fall off :p . I don't plan on pulling any serious competitions, my truck doesnt meet many of the requirements, just playin in backyard pulls around here. I put this in the second gen forum because there are alot more guys on here with dual disk clutches than on the first gen forum.

Now back to the questions. Does a duel disk actually put more of a strane on the input than a single disk would? Also has anybody on here with less then 1000 ft lbs destroid an con FE from beating on it. If the consensus is that an FE will hold I would rather go with that. But we have to get through the ripping on getregs and invading forums first. please give me some experiences.

Like I said, just because they say it will hold 1000ftlbs, doesn't mean it will hold when dropping the clutch, 2000+rpm launches, huge tires and pulling a sled, lazy clutch foot, poor technique etc. You gotta make some choices of which direction you want for the truck. From what I understand, single discs don't last too long pulling, even backyard pulling.

Call SBC up and see what they say. I know member glhs swapped out his FE because it wasn't holding up to launching at the drag strip. They fixed him up with a 'new' single and he's happy with it from what I've read. They might have something for ya.

I'm sure the 1st gen guys over 1000ftlbs don't abuse their getrags, which is why they are lasting. Better watch it, you start babying the getrag, you may get accused of being a dyno queen:rolleyes::-laf!

YES! Absolutely! :-laf It is twice the weight/mass on the stock input over a normal single disk clutch. A full assembly flywheel, disk's, center plate, & pressure plate weighs 103lbs when shipped from SBC. ;)

i got a PPE clutch its a dual disk with the 6 extra large buttons and i did a 3480 plate load so it should be good to about 700 hp terry uses a different button than SBC so it has a higher coefficent of friction so it holds more power with less plate load the clutch is really quite for a dual disk and engages smoother than any of my friends that all have SBC if you want a single go with south bend but if you want a dual disk which i would reccomend get the PPE www.powerpartsengineering.com terry builds the clutches to order and can put in the 1 1/4 hubs and then if you upgrade later he will swap the hubs out for you at a very good price

I hear yah Bill, I am probly going to eventually break the trans, but it's already there so the price is right and I'm gonna see how it goes. I guess the clutch being heavier and the impact that has on the input was an aspect I never thought of. I'm sure the price of parts will eventually cause me to make it a strickly a street truck and "dyno queen" but not yet :D .

Thanks for the info guy's I apreciate it alot, sounds like I will be calling south bend to see what he thinks. I have a friend running a EEP twin in his twin turbo 96 That I may be able to buy and rebuild, it is for a 1 1/4 input but if I can't get that I will probly go single. Thanks agian guys
