Competition Want to et started in Pulling, need advice

Competition 278.5'...bang!!!

OK I have 4:10's and 315 BFG A/T's and about 500 HP. This is my daily driver but I dont mind a little bad driving behavior since I only drive 8 miles to work on a Mtn road. 89H vs 91 vs 93. Does anybody have actual 1/4 mile times comparing the difference.

thanks

We found the 93% race was the quickest for us. 91% street - 13. 67 @ 97mph, 93% race - 13. 27 @ 104mph. Converter was the only change.

Dan, i have run all 3 in my 2000 2500 4x4 gears. If I were you Id get the 91% race TC. I am runnign the 93 now,but would swap back to the 91 tomorrow if i had the chance. All 3 will lock under full throttle if your truck is set up to drag race,so it doesnt make as much difference as it used to before the DTT TCs locked at full throttle. BTW i ran 12. 26 at 109. 25 with the 91 race, and 12. 51 at 109. 25 with the 93 tc. I had 603Hp when i ran the 12. 5 and 640 when i ran the 12. 26, so there isnt a very big difference in them. The 93 will not be fun in traffic, or towing, it heats up extremely quick, the 91 is the much better choice,IMO.

so in racing the difference between the 3 only occurs before you hit your lock up switch??? which is usually before your 2nd-3rd shift...

Thanks

Your right, after lockup there all the same! On my truck if I have the lockup switch selected it will lock about a second or two after the 1-2 shift, then the 2-3 shift is shortly after that, depending on the pavement it's usually eating tires pretty bad at that point till the 3-4 shift then it calms down and keeps you against the back window ;)

I am running the 89% to help with the spool up. I have also found that with 2wd if you leave the line with the lockup switch on so that the trans locks in 2nd and shifts locked thru the gears the truck is just as quick as locking up after the 3rd gear shift. :D

So right now Im stock w/ a comp box, but in the future I will have 500hp. Should I just go with the 89 since I may be hateing life until I get more power, and then I can upgrade to a 91, or just get the 91 from the get go????

Thanks

BigDan if Bill says go for the 89% I would just do it, like I said mine is almost 4years old and times have changed.

Bill knows his stuff, no doubt about it, Just be honest and give him for future plans.

I agree, follow Bill's advice. But be honest with him about what you are looking for and what you are planning in the near future for your truck.

I started with a 91 with lower power and changed out to a 89 for better spool up.

Now I have more power and I'm still happy with the 89.

Changing to 4. 10's and Bill and I both agree it time to go back to the 91. I'm also towing 9000 lbs now.

Keep in mind my truck is a dually with added weight and 31" tires.

Except for the R&R, it's very inexpensive to upgrade the TC if you decide later to change it.

BigDan,

IMHO It depends on your gearing and tire size. If you have 4. 10 gears and run a stock size tire, or slightly larger, I would definitely go for the 91. If you have 3. 54 gears and run a larger than stock tire I would probably go with the 89.

I have also found that with 2wd if you leave the line with the lockup switch on so that the trans locks in 2nd and shifts locked thru the gears the truck is just as quick as locking up after the 3rd gear shift.

This is the way I do my truck also, it makes one less thing to think of, all you have to do is build some boost, let it go and hang on..... Mid range T/Q pulls scary hard!

Having run both the 89 and 91 at high power levels there is not allot of difference between the two but did opt for the 91, you having limited power and tall gear along with big tires I'd say go with Bill... ... ... he's the one that knows best.

Yeah well maybe I would if I'd sell my crawler like you.

You think it would be easy to have a fast truck in a small town w/ only 3,800 people.

Never say Never fawker :D

What kind of Dyno numbers are you expecting now

Ob1kobi- drag racing without using a lockup switch and the TC probably will never lockup as your foot is on the floor the whole way down the track. With a lockup switch the trans will lockup whenever you activate the switch (as long as you have some valve body mods for 2nd and 3rd gear). It will even force it to shift locked. Depending on your power level it will cut as much as 1 second off your 1/4 mile times.
