I would get a . 020 over gasket. I got one on mine and neither is shaved, works fine.

well i was told today that the . 020 over gasket is a marine gasket with means a 12v gasket and said it wouldnt work for my truck. were did you get that gasket if you dont mind me askin?

which holes need to be drilled out? the oil gallery holes or different?

I just used a 24v gasket old or new, and looked to see whick ones needed to be drilled out and what size drill bit. There was like 2 sizes and 3 or 4 holes to drill out. Coolent passages if I remember, last time I needed to one was a year ago. But it did go easy, on a drill press. Hope that helps, Jim.

call Doug at www.pdwpower.com he has the marine gaskets punched out to fit the 24 valves.

talked to doug today and i am going to order one from him tomorrow. with his gasket being already modified for my 24v and at his PRICE, you cant beat it. thanks alot TURBO :) :) :)

Your welcome Ross. The only thing I'm worried about with the thicker gasket is how will it start when it gets to ten or twenty below zero when I goto Canada snowmobiling. Also wondering if it will hurt fuel economy with the lower compression.

Olee's got a bunch laying on top of a cabinet at his shop and he definitely knows what he's doing. He did everything on my head and head gaskets. Seems to hold 70lbs of boost just fine.

shoudnt hurt my compression, should put be basically back to stock compression seeing as my block and head have been shaved so much.

Uhhhmmm, dude.

The Cummins head is flat.

You can slice a hunk off with a bandsaw and not change your CR. Decking the block will, but not the head.

REALLY?????????????? well you still have a combustion chamber like bowl on the head dont you? if you shave the head, and bring the valvles and the bowl closer to the piston, wouldnt that creat higher compression? i know that the block would for sure but not the head? if thats the case then y is everyone telling me to get a . 020 headgasket instead of a . 010 gasket? is the valves hitting the piston the only reason for getting a thicker gasket?

Yeah, it might change your injector spray pattern a bit, but not the CR.

I put a custom set of Schied forged pistons in my 24 valve with the common rail flame deck design and bowl. Friggin' truck got real quiet at idle. Sounds great when you stomp on it, though.

Negative, the combustion chamber is in the piston. The cyl head is flat with no chambers.

Steve

ok gotcha totally makes sense. here is another question then. are the 12v engines typically the same? i no my 24v pistons have the bowls, but if you go to say BIG BAD DODGE website, it showes his pistons which are pretty much FLAT. no bowls. if this is the case then how in the world would that work? would he just be running super super high CR?
