I just joined TDR It is a wealth of information. I have a 2002 QC SB 6sp that I just installed Edge juice / attitude and the Vulcan hose and pump relocate kit. The Vulcan kit is great and is sized for flow. I did this thinking that the third lift pump and the new to me vp44 would last a while. In less than 100mi the fuel psi was at 3psi. So you guessed it, I now get to shop for a lift pump. The Air Dog or Fass seem to be the most reliable and have filters for fine Filtering and air removel in fuel. Is the filters nessary because the pumps are sucking way more fuel than the vp 44 needs ? or to protect a $1300. oo to $2800. 00 vp44 we Dodge owners need to spend half that much to keep the vp44 happy. I'm a maintance mrg for a dairy processing plant. I buy and replace pumps all the time. Is not a pump a pump? You size the impeller and the motor and speed ,make sure you have the net postive suction for the desired head or gpm. The vp44 needs less than 10 psi for starting and 10 psi with engine running. What is the max flow gph with stock truck ? Thanks for any help. Truck has 64000mi 3ea lift pumps 1ea vp44

Well, I do not know the flow rate max, but I had the same issue recently, and I had to do something, could not replace the stocker in good conscience. I did my research and chose the Airdog. I am so glad to be rid of the stock system.

Even after 1 day. Went out this am at -15f and even with the 5 micron and the stock filter still in I could not drop below 10psi. so nice.

I have the FASS with their (Fleetguard) 3 micron fuel filter and the water separator. I run it into the stock filter casing with the 7 micron Fleetguard filter from Geno's.

Fass systems are great..... I have the straight pump [no filter] & love it. I get 23psi idle & 15wot with all these mods..... very good system.

Fass and air dog are great products and this response is not meant to knock any other products. I personally kept the factory lift pump even after 6 lift pumps then came the frame rail relocation with the vulcan big line kit. Why you ask if you are in toad suck ARK. and the lift pump quits you can get one from cummins or dodge or drag out the spare and replace it. in ten mins. and yes the aftermarket lift pumps fail my opnion and d iron maybe the lift pump was already going bad before the relocation. not trying to start a flame war here. and yes there is a toad suck ARK. I am happy to change out a lift pump for all the good service the Cummins gives me when I am travling from Alaska to the lower 48, I know what to expect. a small price to pay. my 2 cents

have a great day.

Although I am not in "Toad Suck, AK", I agree with Chris that an easy "roadside" change out is great. However, I think it's easier to disconnect two wires, two hose clamps and one "Walbro-to-frame strap" than all the BS involved with the stock LP, and a replacement Walbro pump can be had for less than the stock LP (I think about $100+/-?).

My $0. 02/MHO . . . GFS-392, 2 Micron filter, in-line pre-pump screen/filter, big lines, Vulcan draw straw (see links in signature) and modest bombs I get 18 - 20# @ idle and constant cruise, never less than 16# (EVER), and that includes WOT with the comp on 5/5. Yep, I'm a satisfied customer/happy camper.

Do your home work - call the manufacturers/vendors, search the sites for threads related to the pumps you condiser and make your "educated" decision.

Good luck ;)

Or just get a Holley Blue pump & you only gotta loosen one bolt & unplug 2 wires & 2 hoses to change it... ... they are only $100. They are also on stock at most parts stores.

What psi are you getting out of your Holley blue? I get 8 if I am lucky and only after it warms up. In the morning when it starts I have 0 until it runs for a few minutes. I tried a Holley Black pump but that only worked for a couple months and 12psi was the best I got out of it. I too am looking for a new pump. I am thinking my next choice will not be a Holley.

I changed from a Holley blue to a Fass because of the good praise that I saw on Fass pumps & found a deal that I couldn't pass up. I got 14psi idle & 7 wot from my Holley Blue running 90hp sticks, edge comp. It was the only pump on the truck pushing through 1/2" lines. My brother has 20psi idle & 15psi wot with a holley pushing to the stock lp. The Fass is giving me 23 psi idle & I pulled it down to 12wot a few times with my current mods. I like the Fass alot, but I also like the Holley because they are cheap, reliable & available almost anywhere.
