It' not so much as to which brand to use, but rather when you use them.

I know this will not sit well with some, BUT as long as the filters meet or exceed the manufacturers ratings, any brand filter will work just fine.

Filters for one reason or the other, have become personal for many. They think if they spend more money they will get a better filter, or their truck will last longer. The only thing you will get is less change back when you pay for them. The most important thing to remember is that you should replace the filters often, as described in the owners manual. The truth is, when DC contracts out for their filters, they go with the lowest bid from a group of filter makers that conform to a specific list of conditions, the same conditions other filter makers most follow to meet or exceed the manufacturers rating. Filters are heavily marketed by the manufacturers, all in an effort to make you think they will do the job better then the next filter. Or as in most recent accounts, to link you to a specific team (Nascar. NHRA, etc) so you feel part of a team or supporting them. Truth is you are only being duped into spending more money for something then you really have to. If thats OK by you, then so be it, but don't think your getting a better product because you spent more, you just bought into the marketing/advertising hype.

Y-knot,

Certainly not trying to get into an argument :-{} but what brand do you use?

I have been using the Fleetguard oil and fuel filters because it seems the highest recommended most endorsed by other members. Cost is roughly the same as Wix on oil filter and I won't put anything else on either my (or the wife's) truck. Are you saying we are all buying into the marketing hype  ?

Which brand of fuel / oil filter would you recommend for an 05?

I use Napa Gold Filters, their made by WIX. I don't have to order them, so that makes it nice. :-laf If they had Fleet Guard in any stores near by that what I'd use.

Well since you asked I use the Amsoil by-pass filter along with a in-expensive brand (Premium Guard) replacement filter that we sell. They work just fine and adhere to the same standards as any other filter that meets or exceeds the manufacturers recommended specifications. If PG made By-Pass filters I would use too, but they do not. I have used Amsoil, Fleet-guard, Dodge, and Wix, They all worked fine and were identical in construction. At first I was bent on only ordering the best (most expensive) but soon realized the only difference was the price. I sell filters for all the major brands, Ford-Chevy-Dodge and do so at half the cost of others. Like I said, it's not the filter, but rather the fact that you replace it often. For those that do extended oil changes, try changing just the filter at 3000 mile intervals. You get much cleaner oil, and the cost is only the filter and a quart of oil. Diesels are way to dirty to keep one filter for long.
