What snow plow does everyone recomend? I am looking at used ones, anything I should stay away from? Just gonna use it from time to time not plan on making a living out of it. THanks

Seems around here in N. E fisher is the easiest to resell and most common. I am sure others are as good or better but fisher has been in buisness for many years.

I have a 7 1/2 foot western. I love it. Bought it used from a friend. It is the Ui-mount. It is still very easy to hook-up. IMO stay away from Meyer. The quick-connects always leak and a friend is on his second pump moto. And it's a bear to mount and dis-mount. I have had experience with western, meyer, and boss. I like Boss and western. If you wanted a new plow, the new western ultra mount is the easyest to mount. I would love to upgradde. Maybe sometime. But if you are looking at used ones, check the seals on the pistons. That is where I have noticed the most problems.

Fisher- Nice with the cutting edge that trips but if you hit a big pile of snow you want it to trip down also.

Meyer / Diamond - They are ok I got a deal on mine that I coudlnt pass up but im ditching it for a Boss 8'6" poly V with locking cylinders. they meyers are a good nice looking plow and easy hookup (classic II) the classic I are the ones that the lights/pump are put on and you can drop your plow easy but the lights/pump stay on. (thats ok but a pain)

Western - really nice heavy duty! theyve got a shock on the A-frame to the plow so when it trips down it doesnt slam back as hard, The pro series is nice as well as the western 4 pin hook up, not quite as easy as the boss RT3 or meyer classic II, but the wester hookup is still quick and easy although the stand will get packed with ice/snow and its a little bit of a pain to get out if your taking the plow off.

Boss - RT3 hookup is FAST and easy pull up to the truck, plug it in, and push a button how hard is that! they are very strong, look good, the lights are bright! and it comes in a cutting edge trip, poly or steel, as well as the obvious V plow that they are known for. The downside is that the V is heavy, especially the 9'2"! but extremely nice! Id say its the Bently of the snow plows!

non commercial its either Meyer, wester, or boss (if you can find a good one used) so Meyer(classic II) or Western (uni-mount) the meyer is quicker to hook up, but the western is a bit more stout and the shock really helps! Ive not had a problem yet with my meyer, but my western the 12 Pin connection on the plow side rotted a little and the lights werent working correctly so i had to buy a complete new harness for the plow (around 70. 00) I wasnt too thrilled with that. My cousin/boss has a 9'2" Boss V and I steal it when I can. It is the RT2 which is a little bit harder to put on than the RT3 but still somewhat easy.

Curtis and the others... sold cheap, built cheap curtis claims the fastest hookup... I dont think they can beet the boss RT3 hands down.

to sum it up:

Boss (straight poly RT3)

Western Pro (Uni-Mount Steel)

Meyer (Classic II steel)

Fisher (steel)

GET a "Fume Flap" (the rubber strip on the top of the plow that hangs down) It will reduce the "Fume"/ snow that comes over the plow, up the hood and on the windsheild when plowing above 10mph.

Meyer is the way to go,,,, got a meyer on a 78 w150 that dad has owned since it was new,,,, good plow,,, I've got a new ST7. 5 on my work truck. Lookk for the MD II monuting system but the easy-mount is good too. I know fishers are biq up north and i've heard good thinks about them. To me buying a western or a boss would be like buy a chevy truck

I got a 7' 6" Boss super duty plow has been around my family for about ten years. The plow is a pain in the butt to get it on,but in the 10 years we have had it the only parts that were replaced is the kickstand and the lights. I would definitely buy another because I heard the hookup is alot easier now,and that is my only complaint.

I've run Meyer for the last 25 or so years, and they have done a good job. Hookup isn't bad if you block it properly when dropping it.

If I was buying now I'd take a hard look at the 810 Blizzard with the extendable wings. I'm not sure what the durability is, but it looks like it could move some serious snow!

If you're only doing your own driveway anything will work. I have a Fisher 9 foot straight blade for my truck. I can walk outside and have it hooked up in less than 2 minutes, plow my driveway and then un-hook it in less than two minutes. There are some tricks that make putting it on and off easier. I like my Fisher because they are a tough plow, heck just my cutting edge weighs close to 100 lbs. I would never have to buy another one doing the little bit of plowing I do, heck it'll outlast the Cummins. Also the mounts on mine are tucked up high and out of the way. Some of the mounting systems out there hang down really low. We had a boss Vee plow at an old job and the mount for that just about touched the ground.

I have had a Western plow for two years now and I am very happy with. It mounts in a few minutes and comes off in less than that.

SnowMan may wanna pitch in his advice here, but IMHO The new Blizzards are the way to go. They are expandable from 8' hit a button and it is now a 10' plow very well built, and up to the task!

IMHO, Fisher is the only way to go. I never liked western plows and meyer's were never any better. I am from New York, these people in southern California don't push any snow thats for sure.

In my area overall, Meyers DEFINITELY wins on sheer quantity. However, our company truck, and quite a few others I know of, run Fisher minute mounts, and people that have them LOVE them, I know ours takes about 15 seconds to mount, then just plug in the cables.

Lately I have been seeing more and more Curtis plows. Looks like an awesome design, the few people I know with them, LOVE them.

i highly recommend the WESTERN ultra mount. i've plowed with fishers, meyers and boss plows. they are all good. the reason i recommend the western is because you loose very little ground clearance up front verses the others when the plow is of the truck(plow frame).
