As you can tell by my profile, I've done some work to my rig. The next step is probably going to have to be a bigger turbo. My EGT's are thru the roof. With the box on the highest setting, I can peg the gauge at 1600 deg. and keep it there until I let off.

This didn't used to be too much of a problem until I put the lift and tires on (combined with the 3. 54's, and 1500# of tools in the bed), which sapped just enough power to really get the #'s up when going up a grade. Even with the box off, I can see #'s around 1100 - 1200, just to keep my speed up. I have to letoff to keep it under 1100 deg.

So, what turbo should I go with? (please give me $ amounts also). What's it cost to run duals?

And, would propane be a good next step in power?

Which vendor?

Blue, you and I are at a similar power level and at a similar juncture in the the realities caused by our disease. I'm going with twins for the following reasons:

1) Better (hopefully much better) low RPM performance/spool-up

2) Better top end performance

3) Improved EGT control - enough to make 550-600HP usable

4) Enough boost to cover the (inevitable) next injector upgrade

5) There isn't a single turbo out there now that does all the above

I think the best single turbo out there for your power level is going to be KwiKurts B1 at about $1. 5K For twins, you're looking at closer to $4K and maybe a little more if you do it right and O-ring the head. To my knowledge Enterprise Engine and Diesel Performance (HVAC - Nowel) are the only commercially available sources. I chose Nowel because of his excellent reputation here (not to insinuate that Enterprise doesn't, it's just not as well known to me)

Performance Diesel

Enterprise Engine

BTW, it looks like your only about 75 miles from Performance Diesel. One other BTW, on my digital EGT, I can hit 1690 pretty readily.

O. K. Back to the top.

It looks like I'll have to go with a single turbo (for now). But which one? How will it effect h. p. , or will it only lower egt's? If I'm looking for more power, is propane the only option?

Thanks for the help.

I have been running the HX40 from piers for about two months. I love it. I can runn around all day on level five and not even worry about it. When I am pulling the horses around I set it on level one and it still hauls but. I have a hard time seeing 1200*. I don't pass 1350 except on level 5x5 at 100 mph. I saw you have a little bigger injector so you will be fairly close to me. Hope this helps.

An HX40 "Should" be good for at least 20 to 25more hp... . and I would suspect the same with a B1 ... . over the stock turbo.

The "main" gain reason for bigger turbos is lowering tempertures.

Thanks for the info. How is the HX40 on spool-up/smoke? With the gearing/tires I have, it smokes quite a bit durring lag.

Any comments on which, if any, propane I should go with?

I have the HX 40 and it is more like what is an acceptable amount of smoke on spool up? I run around with the comp on level 1x3 and if I drive normal, I can run smoke free. Lag is a bit more than the stock HY but who cares. Once that thing gets to boosting it is up to 30-40 psi instantly. I can run around on level 3x3 and be smoke free... ... Just like on level one. If you hammer it, you'll have your smoke.
