I have been runing the hx40 modified by the almighty one (piers)

and EGT's are very controllable. I can pull on level 2x3-4 wot up to 10,000 lbs and not hit 1250* on a hill. Now add more power, say 5x5 and it will still get smokin hot pulling a load. Level ground empty is another story. I only get to 1400* at 100 mph.

Greg, JR2,

The B-1 flows alittle more than an H2E. The 16cm housing is a little lazier than a 35 but comparable to a HX40-16. The EGT drop in a B-1-16 is about 350-400* over and HX35-12. with DD3's and a drag comp the EGTs slowly climbed to 1550 on 5x5 at 120+mph. towing and regular driving on most any setting it was 'brother-in-law proof'. even when flogging the 16cm B-1 the egts SLOWLY climb above 1100*. it takes 20-30 seconds of WOT 5/5 to get to 1500*.

The 12cm ('kwikspool B-1') nets a lower drop in egts but spools almost like a 35. I cannot say how it tows because I have injectors that are HUGE and cannot be related to any marketed injectors. I haven't done any long distance towing to test it effectively.

I can say that lag is all but nonexistant.

Mark and I can't even start to give good advice on these turbo's that are going in the automatics. Mark and I both have zero turbo lag, but it is because we are driving manual trucks. I had an hx-40 16cm2 before my current turbo and had zero lag then I hopped in a 24v with the same turbo and an automatic and it was a dog too almost 1800 rpm's. I've driven some autos with hybrid turbos that seemed to run with little lag and one was a b-1 the other was a hybrid that ATS installed. Not sure what it was exactualy so you'll have to ask Don at ATS.

My HX40 seems to start spooling as soon as I hit the go peddle. But it doesn't hit until 1500-1600 depending on how I have the comp set up.

I think that the KSB-1 would be great but that's speculation. it spools really fast. Autos have much more lag because of the lack of control over engine rpm... the reason for the HY-9 turbo on a stock auto. They are a lot more sensitive to fueling and turbo changes.

Just my observations:rolleyes:;):D

So whats a PDR ported head cost?

No flame intended for any turbo vendor, but at the price of these I am wondering if a PDR cam ( chose this because of cost, no vendor flames ) and ported head is a better step for a automatic owner. More work to install than a turbo. But can still get you the 300* plus drop in EGT's and cams seem to make things spool faster not slower, etc. Then if you need more you can go to a bigger turbo. -- Sorta backwards to current conventional wisdom. But depending on how you shop similar costs and similar EGT improvements, but improves spool up opposed to potential decrease in spoolup.

Cost, Benefit, Lag, Effort.

Overall I think the big turbo has the advantage for overall bang for the buck. Just wondering if the other model can come close enough to make it worth while for us auto owners?

That is the exact same question I have... ..... as I was thinking the same thing. I may do it just to see what happens. .
