My friend has an 04 that smokes white only at idle. A mechanic drove it and says there is nothing wrong with it. Is that true or could it be an injector failing?

If an injector needs replaced he's thinking of changing all of them to the 50 hp Dynomite diesel ones for the 2 mpg increase. Good idea?

Also do the injector bodies need replaced to upgrade or just the nozzles? Explain if you can when to change nozzles or bodies? I don't know much about injectors. Thanx

Unless the bodies are cracked or nonreplaceable pieces wore out they don't get replaced. Nozzles, solenoids, and other internals are the rebuild parts.

Unless of course you want to to pony up the $$$ for the new stainless bodied ones.

There was a TSB for white smoke after start up. I had mine reflashed for it a few years ago. If the white smoke only lasts a minute or so after a cold start up, they say it's not a problem. If it does it any time it's idling, even after the engine's warmed up, it's a problem.

Strongly disagree that it's ok for it to smoke as long as a minute. When my #5 injector was leaking and repaired under warranty (at 11,000 miles) it would smoke (white) 40-60 seconds on a cold start buring off the fuel that would leak down. If there is white smoke on startup that lasts more than a few seconds you most likely have a leaky injector(s).
