I installed a used US gear e-brake Saturday. Installation was fine or so I thought the brake performed fine but... Sunday the Misses and I went for a drive/shopping. We circled Orschelins parking lot, parked, and walked through the damnedest haze of unburnt #2. Me and My big mouth "I hope it aint us". Got done inside started the truck and were rewarded with rough idle (varying 200-300 rpm) and white smoke. I could hear a soft kind of backfire/pop through the exhaust and the exhaust note went flat every couple second accompanied with a puff of white smoke. Got a trailer, and it wouldn't start. Two painful come-a-long hours later we were loaded and rockin on home.

I don't have a fuel pressure gauge yet, when I removed the scrader valve on the Injection pump and hit the key I had GOOD flow. No idea about pressure but the I-pump had fuel.

Me thinks I just need an injector. Any thoughts? I am considering ddIII injectors any commments concerns or suggestions otherwise?

And please tell me it's nothing to do with the e-brake :(

Anybody? Please help I'd like to get it going by the weekend and I don't just want to swap parts for no reason.

Did your check engine light come on? Did you check for engine codes? I don't want to be premature, but sound like your injection pump is losing timing i. e. going bad.

Cummins will check it for you for around $80.

let us know what the outcome is.

Good luck, Wiredawg

No check engine light. Don't know about codes yet... Is there a 100,000 mile warranty on these engines? Is it transferable to the 2nd owner? I just got it in december. Every month it has been in the shop Dec, was track bar windshield and trans leak. Jan, was pinion seal, U-Joint, TRANS overhaul(Lost 6th sycro, ka boom). Didn't think a pump would just pop

It's got 99876 miles on it. Puck was there when I bought the truck from the dealer. I'm not trying to hot rod and have somebody else pay the bill, just wantin to keep the tires spinnin

thanks

Neal

You can turn the key to run (don't crank) and back off three times then read what numbers appear in the odometer display. Yep, the injection pump can just crap out like that. One day mine started running rough, lost power, coughed white smoke and that was that. Lift pump preasure never showed lower than 10 PSI. DC replaced it under warranty, but I am original owner and truck had about 38K miles on it.

let us know if there are any codes.

Checked for codes, had none. Took the ram to my local chapter of Satan's Minions (DC) today. Two hours later "Hey come get your truck. Nutins (sic) wrong whidid. " Lucky for me. Just in case anyone is wondering the cummins warranty would have covered any issues with the engine.

Drove it home from DC and sure enough "nuttin wrong whidid". Who the he## know's? The highly intelligent Tech I spoke with had absolutely no suggestions.

So i got home gave 'er a snoot full of powerservice and the misses and I are goin back to Orschelen's. :-laf

Thanks wiredawg

Great News

I'm glad to hear you didn't injectionpumpitis. It's tough when you have severe symtoms and they just disappear. You didn't change fuel filteror perhap have bad fuel?

Take care,

Wiredawg
