Greetings everyone, I'm new but have been reading the threads for awhile. Not much of a mechanic but I'm learning by trial and error. Finally got off the pot and signed up.
Now all of a sudden..... problems. The warranty is up and guess what... . I think its a time release thing... .
Anyway heres the story.....
Started about a month and a half ago. Rough running and white smoke. Starts fine. Sometimes kicks and chokes but "runs up". After its warmed up no more smoke but a little rough and a slight "knock". Like a fuel knock, not metallic... .
After suggestions from a back yard mechanic I trusted and a cummins parts man who would help we:
1. changed all 6 (six) injectors..... No help
2. changed the rubber fuel line behind the fuel filter (what a nightmare that was). Slight help but went back to same problem after 1 day.
3. changed the overflow return (pressure valve) on the pump... . No change to the problem.
4. adjusted the valves... . a little quieter but no change in problem... .
I have a new transfer pump I haven't installed yet... Thought I'd ask you'all first... ... Any help would be greatly appreciated... I am now just confused.
