Towed the boat to the lake last weekend. Went to come home, started the truck and I never seen so much white smoke come from a vehicle. Any ideas?

Simon, Lake Chelan? Probably hot. Sounds like one of your injectors is leaking and fuel pooled on top of the piston while parked. Could have been a piece of crud holding it open that finally passed though. Sometimes a fuel additive with lubrication will clear it up. If it continues pull the injectors and have them tested. Valley Tractor in E. Wenatchee used to do mine for $6 each.

OR your turbo oil seals are leaking. Check the tube going to the intercooler and see if it's oily. You can replace the seals easily yourself if that's the case.

Simon, any recent work done? IS the smoke cleared up?

A few causes of white smoke: Slipped fuel pump gear(timing)

Low lift pump pressure( may idle clear smoke on acceleration)

Failed pressurizing valve.

And of course what the other guys said.

Smoke

The truck only smoked the once and just at start up. Cleared up and hasn't done it since. Tought it could be the fuel filter. Temp. was in the 80's

My '96 did that once after a friend drove it and shut off the ignition immediately after stopping off the freeway. In the morning

(65 degrees) it belched white smoke for about 20 seconds and really ran rough. It hasn't done that since.
