Chrysler plans to participate in the next May Madness but they asked me to send a list of those who bought new Ram Turbo Diesels since last April. Could you buyers please respond in this thread, to help the Chrysler guys to get approval from management to attend our event?

I hope Joe and Mike are the reps for Chrysler, sorry, only a 2014 for me.

Was this suppose to be people attending May Madness? We bought a 2015 Laramie 3500 on Sept 21st 2015. SNOKING

I'll be at May Madness, but can only attend the weekend. I did enjoy the full week of May Madness last year, and did see a lot of new trucks. Joe, will Cummins reps be attending this year? I missed that last year.

Joe, I will not be attending May Madness, nor will I be in the market for a new RAM truck.

Could you pass these reasons on. I know I am just one person but I do know others have brought these issues up on the trailer forum as issues as will.

1. The new Ram trucks with the 6.7L Cummins, 3500 SRW truck has a GVWR of 14,000. This will require me to obtain a different driver licenses; Class A non-CDL, State Of Illinois classification. This is do to the new weights of the truck and my 5th wheel weight, this would put me over 26,001 LBS when towing. My current licenses is good up to 26,000 LBS.

2. The bed of the new trucks are to high now when pulling a 5er; there is not enough clearance between the top of the rail on the bed and the underneath of the 5er at the kingpin joint. As you know pulling a 5er nose high is not good for the rear axle and tires this puts too much weight on them. There is a lot of concern on the trailer forums and some users have had to modify the trailer to raise the camper up to provide the necessary clearance.

3. I am not sure that I want to pull a heavy camper with 3:42 differential gears in the SRW version. I would prefer that Ram offers 3:73 and 4:10 gear set also as an attachment. I pull in all types of terrain from flat land to mountain interstates and rolling hills, we do travel the entire US.

Thank you
Jim

Number 1. The SRW 4x4 are 12,300 GVWR for long bed and 11,700 GVWR for short bed.

Number 2. Our new 2015 SRW 3500 tows the same 5th wheel I towed with our 2001.5 without any adjustment to the pin box or suspension. I raised the trailer 3.5: for the 2001.5.

Number 3. I also like many others questioned the 3:42 gears until I owned one. Cruised effortlessly at 80 MPH on the way back from dealer in Colorado. Tows just fine with Aisin transmission and 385 HP and 865 Ft lbs for torque. I see no need to lower gears up to its 17,050 tow rating. Handled our 12,500 5th wheel just fine at 22,050 combined. We tow up a 6 % long grade East on Bakersfield, Ca on highway 58 to Tehachapi at 58 MPH in 4th gear at 2100 RPM's with about a 3rd to one half throttle. Could have run up to a much faster speed except for the curves and trucks/traffic. The long legs for great for bobtail cursing, after 14 years with 4:10's in the 2001.5.

My message to them would be they hit a home run in all three innings!

For Number I. Any truck over a 10,000 GVWR would require a new drivers license for me. Per the secretary of State Police for IL, you take the Camper GVWR and the Truck GVWR added together and if this is over 26,001 LBS a CLASS A NON-CDL is required.

For Number 2. With my 2008 Mega Cab I have 6.5 inches of clearance with no modifications to the truck or trailer. But on a 2016 model truck I would need to raise the trailer to provide the necessary clearance. I have measured this distance on a dealer lot when looking last year.

Number 1. 3500 SRW GCWR is 25300.

Number 2. Until you place the pin weight on the truck, you are only guessing at actual ride height! This 2015 settles more than my 2001.5 with optional camper package. Get the rear air and it may ride even lower in alt ride height setting.

Sounds like you are really trying hard to talk yourself out on a new RAM! Ha! Ha! I loved my 2001.5, however is was in a different league vs the 2013+ trucks.
For that matter, ALL RAMs before the frame change in 2013 are in a different league.

BTW sorry Joe!!!

Sounds like JimW needs to complain to his state government instead of ranting online. I'm guessing there are others in his home state that are in the same boat and would like to have the laws adjusted to meet the current standards of towing vehicles produced. Perhaps he take lead and spear head the movement to get this done.

My 2016 does not sit that much higher than my 04.5 when it was new. The new truck will settle over time just as the old one did. We had a 36' toy hauler and even it had to be raised roughly 6" to get adequate clearance on the 04.5.
