Exhaust Brake Question

Who Makes Super Tech Oil Filters?

just wondering which to go with i've heard good things no both i'm in colorado so ats is close however after doing research i found a lot of good things on dtt who has an installer even closer to my location. The warranty is definitely an ats advantage 3 yr 100,000. that doesn't mean i wanna be taking it in for warranty work every 3 months either. It's a hard choice the prices are similar and i'm just trying to see which product the best fit for what i'm doing.

04. 5 laramie quad, six gun speed loader, afe 2, cool duals, htb2, fass, ats 100 hp injectors. last dyno 521 hp 1007 tq. that will go up though since i have put on the new turbo and took off the cat i hope.

i just wanna make sure i get this transmission done right the first time

hope this thread doesnt starts any wars but i got a six pack waiting to enjoy while reading more of the dreaded transmission wars. best advice i can give you and alot of other people also is do a search there is a close to a ton of info on this exact subject, call each of the companys and see if you can find a truck that has each of the trannys and try to take a ride. first hand experience and feeling the difference is the best way to go. i rode in a truck that had my transmission in it b4 i drove 500+ miles to get mine installed, i have 65K on mine, trans upgrade is prob the best upgrade to my truck.

I second that. Hopefully you can get some useful info before the thread gets shut down. :D Do just as Bandit1 said. Call around to the vendors. Take a test ride iof at all possible. Most of the transmission shops on this board will stand behind their product. Keep in mind, most transmission owners will be biased. SO it is up to you to pick your transmission that best fits you.

Just for my . 02 cents. I recommend DTT or Suncoast. Remember that is just my opinion and it is coming from a 6 speed owner that has dealt with one of the companies that I recommended. :D

Holly smokes!! and you haven't done your transmission yet? How is it hanging in there anyway?

Since both companies come highly recommended and customers defend their buying decision to the end I would go with the one that is the closest just encase you need them.

this thing is gonna get ugly. Check sig for my vote. Two there, and one other one in another friend's '97. I had 35k on my first DTT when I went back and got it done again with billet throughout. . inside looked brand spankin' new, no discoloration of the t/c, all clutches were within 0. 001" of brand new clutches, etc. Fluid/filter changed religiously every 10k miles, and I never ever take it easy on my poor transmission.

Do it once and do it right.

My vote, my sig.

BUT, You have to be happy with what you do. Call both, UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED with a decision.

Both camps will chain their foot to the ground defending their choice. Hence the transmission wars.

Keep asking, researching, reading, calling, riding in trucks with each transmission, UNTIL YOU FALL INTO ONE OF THE CAMPS AND ARE WILLING TO CHAIN YOUR FOOT TO THE GROUND DEFENDING YOUR CHOICE.

Until then,

Keep asking, researching, reading, calling, riding in trucks with each ... ... ... DEFENDING YOUR CHOICE.

Yep all good advise I went through this same delema a year ago. I did alot of him hawing around before I made my desision. I'am very happy with my choice. Mines not a high HP truck dynoed at 332hp but she only comes out to pull my 12,000lb 5vr.

Good luck on your quest. I'm sure which ever dirrection you chose you'll be happy with the results over the stock transmission.

I ended up going with DTT. I wont get into really why I went DTT instead of ATS as that is a really personal choice and I think they both have good products. However I just had an incident this past week that epitomizes DTT's customer service.

I was on vacation last week and was in Chinle Arizona, Canyon De Chelly to be specific in the middle of the Navajo Reservation. If anyone knows where that is you know it is a long way from anywhere and even farther to get your vehicle serviced. I stopped to fuel up at a station in Chinle on the way back to camp and noticed a puddle under the truck. I thought it was washer fluid from cleaning the windshield. We went on our way and stopped at the visitor center for a minute and when coming out I noticed another puddle under the truck. Now concerned I crawl under there and sure enough it is trans fluid leaking from the tc inspection plate cover. I am thinking I will get back to camp and pull the plate and hope that it is the tc drain plug coming loose (wishful thinking). I get to camp pull the cover and check the plug. It is tight. Well since there is no phone service we go down the road about 15 miles to the Thunderbird lodge and use their pay phones. I call Bill K it is 5pm. He has me do some procedures in the parking lot there and hangs around the shop for me to call back after each procedure. Unfortunately it is a no go. It is now about 7pm. He finds out where I am tells me I am right outside of BFE (which I already know) and gives me the two closest installer phone numbers Fred Swanson in phoenix 330 miles away and Mark Chapman in Albaquerque 250 miles away. I get a hold of Mark about 8pm at his home, he says get it here and I will get it taken care of. I call Bill back let him know we are headed to ALBQ since it is at least the direction home and what tips he can give me to help my trans get there. He gives me the info. So the wife and I pack up and head out in the morning. We get to ALBQ about 1pm. I hook up with Mark about 2pm. To my suprise Bill has already called Mark and has spoke with him and is sending out a new tc, input, pump, gaskets and drum via overnight delivery. Mark tears into the transmission and verifies it is the front pump and bushing. The parts Bill has already sent are the ticket to fix it. The parts arrive the next morning and Mark has my truck done by that evening.

Now I was not happy at all about this happening since the trans only had 10k on it and especially 600 miles from home and in the middle of my vacation. However I realize stuff happens and I actually think I kept my cool (which is unusual for me). Bill K and Mark Chapman made the very best out of a pure crappy situation and in very short order got me on the road again. Bill didnt wait to hear what he already knew before sending out parts and then to overnight the parts on top of that at considerable extra expense was incredible. Huge kudos go out to both of them for the best service I could have possibly wished for. By the way covered under warranty and I am quite happy about my choice and even more so with this incident.

Moolie give LaserBob, Bob Berends the local installer you speak of a call. He is a great guy and can give you more DTT info. But also make sure and call Bill K as well as ATS and anyone else you think you might want to use and ask questions, lots of questions and then go with who you feel most comfortable with.

I do think both of them are great transmission's... .

I myself called both prior to getting my transmission, I went with ATS because there Customer service is also outstanding, plus their warranty was to my liking. There local installer was a pro and I am one happy camper. I do think either one you go with you will be happy

i've had a few people ask the same question ...

my advice: do a search on here and DTR for both companies

do a search for posts by the owners of both companies

then do a search for posts by the guy installing your transmission (i wouldn't buy a transmission from a guy who wasn't a member on here)

when i did this the answer was clear ... give it a try and let us know how it works out ...

oh yeah ... 20k miles at the specs below and NO problems at all ... i don't tow by the way

good luck whatever you choose

I have ATS and I'm very happy with it, but that does not mean DTT would not please me as well. Both are very recognized performance transmission builds and both will serve you will. I would feel comfortable with either one. For me it came down to which one can I get locally and which one does the better shops carry. Ats was the winner, they had several local shops (with in a 150 mile radius) that carried their products, and my favorite shop for any kind of installation, TST carried them and serviced them. The difference is worth the money, but make sure you get some sort of con roller (ATS calls it the Commander) and a E-brake, that really makes the truck fun to drive.

I am very pleased with my clutch replacement, etc. work by LaserBob at his Greeley shop. :D

Being a 5 speed driver, I would suggest going to each shop and asking for a test drive. See what feels right to you.

LazerBob Greeley Colorado did my DTT

Great transmission, Great Guy! Single best mod I've done. I smile every day because of the way this transmission works. Where in Colorado are you?

Is the warrenty the same from the dealer and the installers? I have heard that Georend, and Suncoast has a good warrent also. Jim

well i finally went and did it i decided on ats since their warranty was better and the price was a tad better too. not only that but their home store is only like 60 miles from me and that was the weighing factor. With only 1 dtt guy in my area to install that doesn't leave any play if lazr bob had a stroke of badluck and fell off his boat or something. Then I don't know where the nearest would be and for the better warranty i decided to get that level 5 with the input shaft and i was gonna do the output shaft but i got scared
