I just saw an ad on TV for Lowjack. They may be expensive I know they were at one time but it may be well worth it. The thief's get a chance to be caught red handed. It is a tracking device of some sort. The ad says get it back with Lojack, They may have a website.

While it's a nice thought, not everyone can do that for one reason or another. I live on a half acre away from the city, which normally is very safe, but now and then there is some vandalism or auto theft in the neighborhood. In the 23 years I've lived here I have never had a problem, but even in a better neighborhood isn't always totally safe.

I am pretty sure everyone CAN live wherever they want. This is still America. Life is full of choices though, you can choose your vocation, you can choose your location, unfortunately you can not always choose both to your ideal but that is where choices come in. I happened to choose 1/4 the income I had for a safe rural location. To each his own, but to suggest you have no choice is simply not true. I also protect my belongings with Smith and Wesson:-laf

I've know people that really don't have much choice because of job, income or medical condition. I agree that most people can make a better choice. I also carry a S&W in my camper in the form of a 357.

I prefer the old fashioned method

Here is a pic of my dream antitheft device. :-laf

If they do happen to steal it, it would probably be returned with a sympathy note.

They might steal it just for that 8 track. :D:D I alway thought that if you make your truck look like a less attractive target than what it was parked next to you might get lucky. That includes any devise that you have to at least slow them down. If you park next to a shiney new vehicle, that's unlocked with packages in plain sight, with the keys in it etc etc. Probably not possible all the time but the more you can do to make your truck harder to get than the vehicle next to you the better off you are. Kinda like the two guys trying to out run the bear. One finally said you can't run faster than that bear, and the other one answered, I don't have to, I just need to run faster than you!!!!! Oo. Oo.

One thing obvious to thieves on 3rd gens is the red led on the dash cluster. All they need to do is look in the window and try the handle. . If that led is off and the truck is locked then its a sign that the truck has no sentry key, smash the window and hotwire it. Some say you can even pry back the top of the door enough to push a rod in an jab the unlock button.

If the led is on, its sentry equipped and will need to be towed.

Mobilized for one year down here at Fort Huachuca. Looked high and low at all the fancy alarms (that everybody including the police ignore). Lo-Jack? Not offered down here next to the Mex border. (can u believe that one?) THEN you have to hope the cops have a scanner, have time to look for your truck and all the thieves have to do is park it in a metal garage. By the time you find the truck it is stripped. Too expensive also. With all the electronic scanners available. . ($93 available online) you might as well save your money. Ravelco is the only device with a perfect record. 32 years and not ONE of their vehilces have been stolen. got mine in phoenix for $406 with a military discount. Professional install, steel covered wires, all the same color... 18 pin plug... thousand of variations. No power used. Everything works in the truck except for being able to start the engine. Hundreds of so called "professionals" have tried to get around the plug... taking days... have never succeded. Bottom line. IF they want your truck... they will get it one way or another (flatbed) but the word is spreading down here next to the border. Theives wont bother a vehicle with a ravelco sticker in the window. They stole 43 trucks in one month down here, all diesel, all 4 WD and all 4 door big rigs (like mine) right out of peoples driveways in good parts of town too. I now have piece of mind. Proof? Out on the town. . parked my rig in between two other big trucks (cowboy rigs). Came out and two trucks on either side were gone... stolen... mine was sitting right where I parked it. Like I said. Piece of mind.

I want this system!

UPDATE: Buddy just had his rig stolen. Had a GPS tracker on it with motion alarm. Ran outside to watch it drive away. Called the cops... they finally showed up 20 min later but had the description out on the radio when my buddy called 911. Found it stripped the next day with nothing left but the infinity stereo... seems they screwed it up too bad trying to get it out but they did take all the speakers... and the doors. Detective told him: GPS trackers are waste of money, all the thieves need to do is park it in a metal garage or under an underpass somewhere and signal is lost. Also, theives have jammers now... they buy them online for under $100. They plug into power outlet in the vehicle (cigar lighter plug for you old timers) and it jams everything, LoJack, GPS, Cell Phone you name it. If they even suspect you have one of these type anti theft devices they just plug it in. GPS trackers, LoJack? Waste of time and money. Get a Ravelco with some Jimmy Plates for the door handles for peace of mind. Nuff said.
PS: If the theives see you have OnStar? They just bust off the roof antenna.

I don't know if it has stopped anybody but in'98 i bought my 9812v and a short time later saw a device on tv that slides over the break pedal and slides up under bracing against the floor with a pixk proof lock. I have not seen the device for years anywhere. Last place i saw it was bj's a long time ago but i don't go there anymore so i don't know if they still have it. Would not stop them hauling it away witha wrecker but they are sure not going to drive it away.

Matt400: Dodge Ram Diesel similar to mine and I believe it is a 07 but not real sure. He is really sick about it and had made fun of ME for buying a Ravelco! These type vehicles are what the drug smugglers are looking for I am told. I am also told they use them to haul illegals and drugs across the border. They steal so many of them down next to the border here in southern AZ (Sierra Vista area) it is just ridiculous. I was in Nogales AZ and was told by the PD down there that I was taking a real risk just driving around in the afternoon. Seems they just like to shoot you, throw your body on the pavement and take your truck. They don't even ask you to get out anymore... Nice huh? It's like a d*m war zone down here. I bought my truck in PA, then got sent down here for a year. If I had known what it was like (concerning this issue of truck theft) I might have thought twice but then I needed something to pull my camper trailer so I guess its a moot point.

Matt: The RDIF chips in the keys and ALL other alarms are easily bypassed by the technology available for thieves today. It is disgusting. As I said in previous post. . I did a lot of research and settled on the Ravelco. . bottom line is:... . if they want your truck bad enough they will get it, flatbed, helicopter. . heck... sooner or later someone will probably figure out the ravelco too... . but nobody has in the past 32 years. Check out their website. They have some really revealing videos, etc and a lot of them are news videos. It amazes me that this simple device (although expensive it is still cheaper than most) can't be figured out. Engineers have spent days working on it... all the time in the world... and they still could not get it to start. Thieves don't want to take that time and that is all we are doing is slowing them down. The Ravelco stickers on my windows stopped an obvious threat (read past post) because the thieves are learning about the Ravelco and will pass up your truck and steal the next one... that is exactly what happened to me. Peace of mind. Now that is good enough for me.

Someone must have got another key if they drove it away then cuz pretty sure all 07's are sentry equipped.

Matt; Also forgot to mention in my last post to you. When the truck was found, the steering col was busted open and ignition wires were ripped out... dont think they had a key... don't need one even with the RDIF Chip key anymore and that information is all over the net. Also forgot to mention that all the goodies he had on his truck? Well the insurance company (Nationwide?) is not covering any of that and he had quite a few bucks tied up in it with the chrome wheels, off road lights and big tires, etc etc and all the mods he had in it. Word of advice: Make sure you get a rider on your insurance contract for all the extra goodies... or you will lose big time.

even with the RDIF Chip key anymore and that information is all over the net.
News to me and I have been researching Chrysler thefts for the past 7 years and haven't found a single Chrysler sentry equipped vehicle driven away unless the thief got a key. If its all over the net. . I sure haven't found it.

At work right now. Will look up info I had researched in the past when trying to decide what anti theft device to go with. Will send you links later. I am no expert on researching vehicle theft. all I know is whats going on in my area right now. And it amazes me that you havent found a single chrysler product driven away without the key? I believe you but it still amazes me and dosnt make sense from my limited information standpoint. About the bypass methods available... maybe I should not have loosely said it the way I did "all over the net" but it is there as I remember it clearly and it really bothered me.
It also costs a lot to replace one of those keys if you lose one. Bummer. I am wondering if you got a blank key, then you could copy the code onto a new key then and then steal the vehicle? Why would they rip up the ignition then? And. . how could they get the code? Makes me wonder. Thanks for your information too. enlightening.

There is hope, Mexico is offering 2 million dollars for information leading to the arrest of drug king pins. Maybe they have realized they wont be an attractive place to visit or for industry to locate if they don't correct the drug problem.
