I protect all my vehicles with my Remington 870 and SigSauer P229. Bring it! You've heard the addage, "Those found here at night will be found here in the morning," and "Is there life after death? Trespass here and find out. "

RFID Sentry bypass options

MATT 400:
This link will take you to just ONE site. There are hundreds others if you google RFID BYPASS ... I am using this one just because it was easy to find. At the bottom of the page you will see other links to click on. Check them out too. As for Chrysler products being stolen with Sentry system... check insurance company sites or just call them and ask one. I called State Farm Ins. Very interesting computer data readily available but some companies may not publicize them for business reasons. Of course they are going to claim the opposite to save face anyway. The RFID keeps the "amateurs" from messing with your vehicle and has indeed dropped the theft rate... BUT... for $63 I can drive your RFID protected vehicle away with a bypass device scanner. Technology sucks sometimes huh? Last note: My insurance company gives me a discount not for the Ravelco but for the Sentry RFID system! Funny huh? :-laf

Ravelco Anti Theft Device Hope this helps somewhat.

PS: Today, 0600, guy leaves house to go to work... truck is gone. Ford F350 Stolen, three days old. Five miles from where I live. I am going to invest in the "Jimmy Jammers" to keep them from getting into the cab and screwing things up too. They might not be able to steal the truck but they can steal all the goodies inside and wreck it bad.

RFID Bypass products are for use with remote starts where no key is near by. From what I know those products require one or more keys to program it to allow a start with no key.

It would be interesting to know if the new Ram stolen was equipped with a remote start.

If so I suppose the receiver could have been activated somehow and the column smashed to unlock the wheel.

Just thinking out loud though cuz I still havent found a Chrysler Sentry Key® Engine Immobilizer equipped vehicle driven away without a copy of the key. I have googled & googled in addition to watching posts on 3 Ram truck and 3 LX platform sites for the past 7 years.

Ravelco is a great product for sure, question is if its redundant.

If they are being stolen this way, I am all ears and want to know.

I will check with this guy but I do not think it was a remote. I really dont know to tell the truth, but I will ask. You have ME starting to question more and you also have me doing more research. All is not as it seems even in print sometimes. This has been a really good discussion. I appreciate also the link regarding WWII veterans. I have a total 26 years in service between the Navy and the Army with a 13 year break in service. Day one was April 25 1970... got drafted [#50]... . joined navy cause i didnt want to go to Vietnam... guess where I went? Hah. Ya... ur right. Play chess with the military and you lose. Off track there sorry. Won't see this guy for a few days. He is driving a Ford Ranger now. :-laf
PS: Even if the Ravelco is "redundant" it can't hurt and if the thief knows what the Ravelco is then he knows what it means... and keeps walking. I like that a lot. Peace of mind wont be complete until I get the jammers on the doors. Take care.

The break in service is odd. Much thanks for your service!

Myself, sisters and cousins served during the cold war. Dad was WWII, an uncle in Korea KIA. You should sign up for that program in the link, they are working there way through and will be on your door step one day.

MATT:
I got out after four years active duty in 74, signed back up with the Army to get my college loans paid for. Only had one year on the GI Bill before that ran out originally because i had waited too long to get into a school. I filed for an extension that was being offered for Vietnam vets... but they turned me down because the program would lead to a degree. Huh.... . stupid rule. If I was going to Joe blows welding shop on the corner I could have gotten the extension... but because the school I was in would lead eventually to a degree they turned me down? Just dosnt make any sense. Anyway, that is the reason for the 13 yr break. I should have stayed from the 1st tour but I couldnt take some butt head with one more stripe than me. . who couldnt even run HIS life... . telling me how to run mine. Foolish 24 yr old. Live and learn. I am a field grade level officer now so I guess it pays off. Pension is vested after 20 yrs so it was worth sticking to it. Money is good too. Later.

"knock on wood" Guess I'm lucky in that we don't really have an issue with car theft around here. When the Concealed Carry laws were passed here in Texas several years ago, car-jacking immediately declined.

As for myself, I don't take my truck anywhere that seems suspect. And it would be impossible to steal it from home unless the thief was wearing some really good KEVLAR and can outrun my dogs.

Lojack

I am NOT a dealer.

I am an ex sheriff dispatcher and people's lojack frequently meant getting their vehicle back pretty quickly. Most PD's participate.

But it is kinda spendy and doesn't stop them from taking it in the first place, just helps locate it once you realize it is gone.

No remote start on stolen truck

MATT:
Buddy is back in town. He says he did not have a remote start. He did mention that the insurance company stated that the sentry device was bypassed secondary to access to wiring? :confused:Not sure what that means. I have talked to other people about this and you and I might be talking about two different issues... maybe? I am pretty sure we are on the same page but looking back at your last post (#63) you stated that they are only used with remote starts and I have found that is not entirely true. If you look at the whole Ravelco site (#63) and do some research you will find details regarding the ability to scan all different kinds of chip frequencies and also detect the manufacturers resistance setting(?) that matches the resistance in the key itself (?)and I am no engineer so I do NOT claim to understand all that so if you could please explain that one to me I would appreciate it. I am sincerely interested at this point. Thanks again for all your input and information.

Are Kill switches enough?

Learned a few thangs from your Security comments. I like the tip of turning front wheels to discourage towing it away.

I discussed Viper security pkg. & basically only starter kill relays are installed these days. Tapping into any of the ECM wiring is fraught with law suits from customers who claim they were not told that under some circumstances would require the dealer to reset engine codes, or a faulty relay could strand them without warning, etc.

I begged him to consider interrupting some of the ECM wiring, but he will not. The best he can offer is to hide the starter solenoid relay splice the best he can, and install a few more ($25) horns. About louder horsn, he reports the law limits them to 120 dB each, but more horns will produce more noise at that limited level, and many go that route.

I too have many $thousands invested in my truck's infrastructure & I don't even want to think of starting over! A call to my insurance agent resulted in learning that up to about $5K in "customizing" is included; more than that and a list of equipment parts & installing labor is needed. When I submit that list, I'll get a quote for a rider to our policy. If I remember, I'll share that info with y'all.
