Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Who has best price for 12 Valve lift pump?

I need to know as mine is going south, and the overflow valve has already been checked and swapped with a know good one and its no better. :{

Dad ordered one from Chrysler... . if I remember correctly... he didn't pay much more than $100 or so for his (with his garage discount... ).



I paid like $150 for mine right through Cummins... . with no discount... . I was in crisis mode and couldn't wait to order one... so I paid full price.

You can remove the lift pump and replace the o-rings. Thats all you will need unless the rubber cover is damaged. After I bought a new one I read on here where someone said it could be overhauled. I went out and took the old one a part sure enough all I need is to change the o-rings.



I think I paid $139. 00 for my lift pump at Cummins.

I have a brand new lift pump in the box, with gaskets, and hose that connects to fuel heater. Sold truck before I replaced it. I can make you a good deal on it as it is just sitting on a shelf in my garage. Let me know.

Saw where you PM'd me but my box was full Fish On, guess now I know why. Thanks for the offer, but I have a new one coming that should be here from US Diesel Parts tomorrow.

FYI the cheapest place I've found for the lift pump is Case equipment. Right around 90 bucks. I can get you all the part # if any one is interested. It is the same Carter pump in a Case box.

Gasket: J939258 (two required)



This is the exact same Carter pump in a Case box. You will need to swap one of the fittings from your old pump to the new pump this will be self explanatory when you hold the pumps side by side. I have gotten several PM's requesting these numbers so I might as well share with all.

Sorry to drag an old post up from the dead but I thought this is an important update for anyone who might come across this.



The CASE lift pump, although it is the same Carter part, as mentioned does have a different fitting. If you have an earlier style lift pump you cannot replace your LP with a CASE unit because the fitting between the older LP and the newer Carter LP are not interchangeable. They are threaded the same but the length of the fittings between the two pumps is different and is not interchangeable. I did a little checking and it appears there was a change to the newer style LP sometime in the 1997 model year but I'm not sure if all 1997 LP's could be interchanged with the CASE unit or not. Obviously with 1998's this is not an issue.



I ened up picking up a LP at NAPA. It was the same Carter part as the CASE pump but with the proper fitting. NAPA was $132 CASE was $98.



Does anybody need a LP for a 1998. I will make you a deal on one

www.usdieselparts.com still has them but the price jumped from $110 or so from when I started this thread to around $130.



I have a OEM lift pump from replacing the one on my current truck (bought another truck since then) if someone is interested its listed in the classifieds..... turns out it was good after all! :{

I got mine from Precision Diesel in Mason MI(Marty Tompkins) (517)694-1522. Pump was 110, OV was 35, 160 total shipped to my house in GA. There is one fitting you'll have to change over from the old pump, and the hose from the prefilter/heater doesnt line up exactly, but it works ok. I should probably replace the house but didnt take the time to measure the size.

I talked with Marty. He mentioend to me that he was selling an "offbrand" LP. Is the one you received a Carter.

Here is a picture to better explain the differences between the two LP and help you determine if you can purchase a LP from a CASE dealer or not.



The longer fitting on the original 1996 does not interchange with the newer style CASE lift pump. Although the fitting will screw into the pump as the threads are the same, the newer LP has a shorter spring and it will not seat in the longer fitting.



The reason the fitting needs to be swapped out is becasue the size of the inlet on the CASE lift pump is different than that of the 90 degree elbow that screws into it.



I guess I could have solved my problem but finding another 90 degree elbow that has a 1/2" barb fitting on one side (for the hose) and a threaded fitting on the other side screw into the lift pump (I'm not sure what size the threads are on the CASE pump).



FTR - The CASE lift pump is the exact same pump as the pump that I purchased from NAPA (they are both Carter pumps) the only exception is the fuel inlet fitting are different.



Purchasing a pump at a CASE dealer is certainly the cheapest and best way to go, if possible. Hopefully this info can help you decide if you can go that route or not and save you some time, money, and/or aggravation in the long run.
