Here I am

Who is going to get a DD cam first??

I was just over at the Diesel Dynamincs web site and I see that they are offering their new cam. It is spendy but the dyno charts and mileage/power claims sound good. Who is going to be the first to get one... . actually I guess it is probably who is going to be second since I think at least one member already has one.

Joe Donnelly was involved in the design of the cam.

The smoke is reduced up to 50% with more power. That is a very good advance in design. The turbo will spool faster and that is great for guys with heavy wheeled turbos like the hx40's and the H2e.

I would like to get me one after I install the cylinder head he is doing for me.

A friend (and TDR member) of mine already has one of the new DD cams (he was bragging about it just the other day). I believe he is just waiting to get the time to install it.

Yes it will... my friend with the DD cam commented on this (with a :D on his face). I guess you could say he has plans to adapt the 12v mechanical fuel pump to his 24v engine.

Ain't life great!(?)

that couldn't be, that shouldn't be, that can't be...

Mechanical fuel pump? So is a P7100 a mechanical pump???

I stated in my last post, fuel pump not injection pump. However, the Bosch P7100 injection pump is mechanical (i. e. , not controlled electronically).

Bob, Stefan is correct, I wasn't talking about Rob Hanson. If it had been Rob I wouldn't have mentioned it as too many of you would have figured it out. My friend neither held me to secrecy nor stated I could broadcast this to everyone... out of courtesy to him I will let him tell all. :D

Bob, you could always dial 1-800-MISS-CLEO

So Evan leads me to think, yes it can, but John says another... . I am  !!!

Please tell me more so I can stop being a big dummy. :D

I thought that the P7100 was the whole shabang when it came to 12v pumps. I will admit that I do not know that much about the 12v, just that they can make more power a lot easyer from pump adjustments. Who needs to study dinasours when you got an F-14??:D ;) :p

Andrew

On the 12V, both pumps (supply and injection) are mechanical. On the 24V, both are electrical, with the VP44 having mechanical plungers, etc. Can ya dig it, Andrew? :D

Jive talking....

So then this extra lobe, what is the advantage of it? Ok, we can drive a mechanical supply pump with this lobe right? So what would this replace on the 24v, the lift pump? If you can't tell, fuel systems are my weak point on these trucks, as they are the weak link too I know.

I got my shovel Evan, but I have a hard enough time digging my classes. :D

Andrew

Andrew, the cam lobe on the DD custom cam will drive the OE 12v mechanical fuel pump (not the P7100 injection pump). The 12v mechanical fuel pump bolts to the driver side of the block just slightly ahead of the 24v lift pump mounting location (behind the 24v lift pump mounting bracket... at the forward end). If the 12v mechanical fuel pump were added it would replace the 24v electric lift pump (i. e. , electric fuel pump).

How's that? ?

:D

My question is what is the pressure and flow ratings on the 12v mech lift pump? I see guys talking about having 25 psi pressure on the 12v. Wouldn't you have to rig a regulator of some type up to prevent way too much pressure??

I think the price on this is out of my budget right now, maybe an option on my dream drag truck that is a couple of years off.

Ported Head and a few other "minor" things are first on the list when I visit DD, then if I have enough $$$$ left over then I'll slap in a lil cam.

Using the stock 12V mechanical supply pump with the VP44 isn't oo bright of an idea. The pump has some preety nasty pulsation to it, which the VP44 wouldn't be too fond of. You would need some sort of an expansion chamber if you were going to run the 12V mechanical pump with the VP44. Plus, the pressures are quite a bit higher, peaking at over 30 psi.
