SOLER,

Okay, I stand corrected. I am sure that some wiper blades are better than others, but most of us appear to be disappointed with old ones and happy with new ones.

More to the point, what is the brand or NAPA number for the wiper blades that you like. I am due to replace mine too, and there's a NAPA store fairly close. I'd love to find something that is reasonably priced that does the job.

They are just the off-the-wall brand that NAPA sells as their own.

Just my 2¢: Yes we're all thrilled with new wipers- how to get them to last?!! I have gone to the innovisions not because they're better at clearing the glass but they have a lower profile and don't skate at 80mph+ like all the others. I have found that older blades can still work better WITH a washer heater. washer fluid @ 120° does a much better job of cleaning the wiper too! Check the Geno's Ad for what was the Jacobs safevue heater.

I vote for the Bosch Micro Edge, they are the best wipers I have ever used and the only wipers I sell. Yes they are more money then most others, but during a rain storm they will always remind you just how well spent that extra money was. I love them, and will continue to only sell them at my store.

I used to change the blades ever 3 to 6 months on my '98. 5 due to the rubber vulcanizing. The parts houses were usually out of the size I needed so I would have to hit 3 places to get what I needed, every time. I was using Trico blades, I couldn't see spending a bunch of money on blades that would probably not last any longer than the Tricos. One day I had a blade come apart in a storm and I stopped at an O'Reilly's here in Houston. No Tricos, as usual but I was stuck because it had come a turd floater and I didn't want to scratch my windshield. So I bought a set of the house brand just to get rolling. Those were some crappy blades, probably made of plastic instead of rubber. The were noisy and did a less than fair job of wiping the windshield. One thing about them, they never got any worse and might have gotten a little better, so I ran them for 3 years until I traded in the truck. :-laf

You guys complaining and lamenting about the OEM blades either have something different from my girlfriend's 04 Dakota, or are a lot more stringent than we are. Her blades have been on the truck 4 YEARS!!! (yes, they are the originals). They are just now starting to streak and chatter a little. She bought the truck new. I gave her the idea about 3 years ago to wipe the edge with a blue paper towel every now and then. The rubber was perfect for 3 years, and started a little rip in the one end of the driver's side.

I have a single Triple edge on my 92- didnt want to spend the money for 2 if I didnt like it- (Brand new windshield, so that isnt the problem), and it streaks something awful. Streaks are small, but still not a clean wipe. After about 20mi of rain, it starts wiping clean, but to wipe off spray from a big rig (esp after they salt the roads for our "winter weather"), forget it. I'd swap with the passenger side, except it is old and dry rotted, so it's a toss-up. I'm VERY disappointed to say the least. I think I may try the Anco -it's a step up from the $2. 50 cheapies I have been running 6-8mo at a time, and her shop sells/ installs them. Must not be totally bad.

Over the years, I have used Bosch and Trico with some success, but last year I bought the PIAA super silicone inserts and they are trully an excellent wiper blade. You are supposed to buy the entire arm, but if you simply buy the insert in the right lenght, they fit into the oem arm, at least on my 2005. They cost me less than 10. 00 each and have so far lasted 2 winters and 1 summer. They are still working great right now. They keep the glass cleaner and water beads right off so that you can see through a storm easier. They are super quiet and have yet to chatter. Bugs also clean off easier. I do also add a silicone type cleaner to me resovoir, but the blades worked great before I even did that. Maybe any silicone type blade will work this well, but I am definitely impressed with the PIAA's !!!

ps-i don't own piaa stock--really:-laf

PIAA is what I used for a couple years on my 02 and now on my 06 after using the OEM for a year. I haven't found a better wiper blade than the PIAAs.

Am I the only one who thinks that Rain X is a bunch of junk ?

Seems to me that it put a coating on my windshield that would deteriorate with time and leave a - "film scum" - that would then cause all kinds of glare problems when it rained.

Couldn't get the stuff off ... . even with acetone... ... that was puzzling... ... had to sell the truck :)

Back when I used to wash & wax my trucks, I found that waxing the windshield worked pretty darn good. The rain would bead up and run off if you were moving, bugs didn't stick as bad, and it never seemed to leave any nasty film, etc.

I suppose I should wash 'em again one of these days, but living in the middle of several thousand acres blowing dirt, it seems kinda pointless...

Never tried the actual Rain-X, but their washer fluid is great. Never leaves a film and water beads like crazy. Sometimes I never need to use the wipers.

I tried the washer fluid once and hated it. Left a film that I swear is still there today (can't be). Won't go near the stuff anymore.

Different strokes, I guess.

Another no-no vote for Rain-X in the fluid, I had thought I did something wrong. I ran a set of Michelin blades for 22 months, they were decent enough for me, but then we've had a record drought, too.

I've been using the Trico silicone blades for about three years now and they still work like new. When I first installed them they chattered a little so I used RainX on the windshield and they smoothed up. Got them for seven bucks at Walmart. In my opinion the silicone blades are the most durable.
